Wow that is a sweet proposition, I will have to think about that. May have to give me a purchase price just in case I fall in love with them.

One thing I learned about buying aluminum rods for some weird engine is that it is a good idea to see how close the stock rods come to hitting the cam. As in a GMC the OEM rods are very close to the cam and you must jump through all kinds of hoops to use aluminum rods. Reduce rod jurnol to SBC size and get small base circle cam ground. I decided steel rods were a better choice.

I have ones that say Cadillac in big block letters. The cursive script ones are cooler ;)

Now if you decide that those big bulky aluminum rods will clear your cam, bottoms of the cylinder bores, pan rails and counterweights it's time to think about what else they can do for you. Since you would be having them made anyway how about calling your piston supplier of choice to see what he has on the shelf in a flat top blower piston of around 3 1/2 inches. 2 liter Pinto comes in at 3.570 and when I was running a Pinto they were off the shelf parts. Some guys were running big boost in these things. it's still a race motor. And you get a good ring pack with the wrist pin up high for good rock control. Nice light assembly. Measure the pin to crown hight and the same for your stock Cad parts and add the differance to the rod lenth so the piston comes up to "0". While we are at it how about some reasonabley avaible rod bearings. You could grind those way oversize rod jurnols down to 2.750 (440 Dodge) or 2.200 (BBC) and loose some bearing friction and gain good easy to get bearings. Wont cost any more to make your rods fit a BBC bearind. maybe less.

The journals are 2.46" stock. After working with GRP for rods, it was determined that a journal diameter of 2.1"(SBC large journal) was needed, to get the rod width where we needed it to be. Mile High Crankshaft said it can be safely done, and will handle the work, and re-hardening.Bore will be .040" over(3.5376")

Ross will make short(compared to stock) forged blower pistons, and the rods will be lengthed .1875", or .25",plus the difference in pin relocation, depending on how much materal we need to take out of the heads for valve clearance, and still keep it under 375 CI.

They don't much care what you take out of the heads. It's strictly a bore and stroke deal. What is your bore going to be? 2.1 is even better for rod jurnols.

They don't measure displacement? Just bore and stroke?

If we can use SBC small journal rods, it will be even better. Waiting to see what Mile High Crank says.

If we can,, we'll stroke it .25", and bore it .040" over.

    Total will be 3.5376" X 4.75"

373.5 cubic inches. Big flathead, huh?

If we have to use the SBC large journal, we'll bore it .060 over, and stroke it .1875"

    3.5576" X 4.6875"

    372.8 cubes.

SCTA computes cubic inches as Bore times bore times .7854 times stroke times number of cylinders. Nothing else. A 4 and a half inch stroke seems like enough to most people. My Plymouth was 4 3/4. I am glad you have decided to use iron heads.

I posted this on my build thread, but I'll post it here for you Flatcad guys!

I spent the day at a CAD modeler/digitizer, and now have improved, high compression, two piece heads in a CAD prigram. I thought it was pretty cool.

The purpose is so that I can try different chamber designs, to see what flows the best.

    What do you mean?

  15. I was just wondering if your were able to get a set that flows well and if you were having any luck getting them made up?

I can get them made no problem, but we are still working on a new chamber design.

    You weren't by chance, volunteering?;)

The exhaust manifolds were modified as the engine was in a Cord.

Good news! The FlatCad Racing support shirts are now available!

These are designed by Dart165 and Keeper, and printed by Oddrodgarage. Thanks guys!

How about cast 4-71 blower intakes, for the Flatcads? These are soooo cool, and this is the prototype!

You know you're gonna want one!:D

I'm not the one making them, but I can get you set up with the guy that is!

I thought I'd show you guys the heads that Keeper just finished for the FlatCad. He does amazing work!

These heads have 7 extra stud bolts, to help handle the blower compression.
