I just got a 63 Cadillac with 28,000 original miles on it.. I want to do a mild custom out of it but I was curious if there are any engine dress up items or possibly speed parts for the 390.. So far I havent found anything for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
finned valve covers are avilable. 3x2 are available if you look around. pm me and i can give you information.
Your 390 should not to be confused with earlier '59-'62 390's. The only thing that they share is the displacement and the Cadillac name. The '63 390 is a one of a kind. I have not seen any hop up parts for it. The earlier 390's on the other hand do have a good selection of vintage and currently produced speed parts.
i'm sorry i assumed it was the same as mine a 59 block. I will look around for you and the 63. sorry again brad
I have one also. The 63 and 64 429 cars are very similar. I would suggest you subscribe to this MSN group. http://groups.msn.com/196364CadillacCommunity/the63and64cadillacclub.msnw
Even though its got a cast iron block, some smaller parts are aluminum. In 1960, Cadillac had the dual Exhaust System replaced solely with 4 barrel induction, 4 barrel Rochester and continued on that way at least through '65 (Model#710930 for the '63). 1962 Cadillac 390 parts will not interchange with those on 429s. The 1962 Cadillac 390 is the last year for the first-generation overhead valve Cadillac motor. The 1963 390 is a different motor with more in common with the following 429s. As you may know, Cadillac and Oldsmobile introduced OHV motors in 1949, and some believe this was the very beginning of the muscle car era. Cadillac's motor displaced 331 cubic inches through 1955. In 1956, the blocks were punched to 365 and in 1959 stroked and punched to 390. This motor was utilitized in new Caddies through 1962. In 1963, a new block was introduced but retained the same 390-inch displacement. In '64 the new block was punched to 429 inches. This block was continued through 1967. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_V8_engine#Redesigned_OHV http://hudsonjet.net/cadillacs.html
jaysix, your car sounds like mine, but i have a 62 with 24,000 miles. brad b, i'll be sending a pm for details on what you have.
I have a log manifold that i had re-created and casted like the edelbrock styled manifold. It is for running four carbs total, rochesters and stromberg bolt patterns. If people are interested I will change my tooling for a six carb set up. I have pictures if somebody is willing to post them on here for me. It fits cadillacs from 49-67 and will even clear the hood if you run it in a cadillac 49-67 car.
Here's that intake! According to Jordan: "If I have a crowd for the 6 carbs i'll have those casted but as for now just a 4 carb set-up is being made." BADASS! You can get a valley cover for a 429 folks... finned, no less! ~Jason
I will also be casting a finned valley cover, valve covers. For the early 390s the valley cover will block off the stock fuel pump tube with just an oil pour in spot for those of you who want to clean the top of the engine up. Please PM me for pricing and availability dates, the manifold should be ready to ship in a few weeks!!!
Hey, I know this is an older thread, but I wanted to bring it back up, as I have a '63 Deville I am in the process of screwing around with. Any information on parts I can find?
Man, you need to join THIS group: http://www.msnusers.com/196364CadillacCommunity It might be a bitch to initially sign up, but it's well worth it. Those guys are KING SHIT of '63/'64 parts... and are by no means a majority of purists. They're cool as hell. Not to mention, they're the end-all, be-all of the '63 390 and 429 info. ~Jason
