Ok so I bought a running cadillac 390 for my 31 model a, did not come with a trans, which way should I go with it? I could get a bellhousing from wilcap for a 4 speed gm or ford trans? or I could get one for a bop auto trans? or the original trans that would have came on it? I have not heard anything good about them.

  2. 1956-1964 Cadillac used a dual-coupling Hydramatic, 4 speeds, while you can abuse them and break them for average to moderate driving they're just fine. I had one in my '60 Pontiac and I did do a few burnouts with that car. Loved it, as automatics go they are fun to drive with - you can shift them manually if you want.

The trans was used in Pontiac and Olds '56-'60, and Pontiac Bonneville '61-'64. I'm not sure if Olds 98s got them too but I don't think so, they used the Slim Jim along with the small Pontiacs that was such a piece of crap.

I will probably beat on it a little now and then and maybe some track time.
