Have you showed your students the '54 Buick Wildcat? That looks close to what you want to accomplish.

Are you talking about this 59?

  4. yes
it is similar but we are planning for a painted, Ed Roth/ inspired build
all suggestions and examples are greatly appreciated
the more ideas we have to pool from, the cooler the build

  5. we checked out that one
would be super hard to build something like that from something as cool as an invicta
If our caddy had been a 59 of 60 we would have not cut it up
I have access to some 59 Impala Qtrs but for some reason I like how these caddy ones are flowing
the hardest part will be the flow from the QTR to fender
I haven't seen one built this way, we may be figuring out why

Ed was a genius, Dean Lanza did some absolutely great paint in the 70's.

  8. You just need this door or a section of it. That's the transition
Weld the door to the 1/4 cut the fender down to keep the over all length the same.
    Easy peasy

  9. the blending of the 2 pieces should be straight foward
its how they will flow as looking from the front
from being approximately 48 inches wide at the cowl to around 24 -30 at the front/grill area
like looking at a 32 from the front how it is coke bottle shaped
both the QTR and fender are very straight and its gonna have to bend at the cowl

  10. Get coke bottles and long sexy sweeping S curves out of your head.
Put the transition piece (keep it relatively short) at the drivers shoulders/seat back. More along the foot print or top view of a prowler, just a little straighter/flatter

  11. 32 may have been a bad analogy
Just don't want it to look like it was thrown together or unplanned where they transition.

  12. We are going to do a few different mock ups
The next one will have the QTRs at a slight angle inward.
The rear slightly wider than the cowl area. Then angle in the fenders.
Just mocked it up with a front axle. Next we will start with the rear
We also mocked up an engine and discovered we could shorten it. Looks much better with the shorter WB. Once we determine the WB we will start fabbing the rails

  13. we created a base design for the perimeter frame today
the WB we have is 100 inches, much shorter than when we first threw together
we placed the QTRs wider in the rear and slightly pinched a the cowl
we are approximately 48 inches wide at the cowl area, 30 at the grill and 52 at the rear of the fins
    made for a gentler flow
our engine measurements has the intake above the top of the fenders, which will place a few carbs up in the air, Students liked this look.
we will start with these measurements but can make adjustments as we build
its gonna be a tight fit

Have you decided what type of grill to use?

  15. Not 100%
    It's a fluid design
We are figuring out the overall size and trying to make it where two fat men.can fit in it

  16. How fat?
    Lol

  17. Too fat
We mocked up seats and fit a couple of students.
The first comment from them was this will not be very comfortable
My response was if we wanted comfort we would build this out of a couch
I told them this is a form over function build

  18. Will try to post pics of progress soon
If looks kinda crude now but we have the info we need to start the chassis

Missed school today for the flu
First sick day since teaching (sucks)
Should be back tomorrow since the fever broke last night

    On a good note I located a 671
    Hmmmmmmmmmm

  19. How wide is it at the hip's and shoulders of the occupants ?

  20. Around 42 inches
I have a slightly wider 9 inch from a mid 70s f100 that will allow me to widen it a little

  21. Damn, a model A is 50ish at door jambs
My truckcoupe is 54 and that's pretty roomy

My nephew is 18" wide at the shoulders, I'm 22" the shoulders

  22. Yep
I think we can push it close to 48
It's not supposed to be comfortable just cool

  23. Oh and we got to fit a drive shaft in there somewhere
When you do the math on drive line angles and how short the drive shaft will be it kinda makes your head hurt
We're gonna mock it up a little higher to see if we like it

  24. If it longer, and you keep proportions the same, it has to get wider.
If your mock up has the sides straight from headlights to taillights without a transitional break at the shoulders I bet it needs to be center drive, tandem passenger. And the ass end will be wider than a dually.

Cool stuff is great, I'm up to my ass in a cool truck that was slammed and un drivable.
    It's a 10 year build , got a 15k paint job , 7k interior and I'm cutting it apart.

This is pretty cool but you can't build it either.

  25. Could care less about comfort for this
Got a school bus for that
We have been studying this awesome ride from Paridice Customs
I have no problem with cushions on the floor and for the seat back

  28. Yes just not ready for pics yet
I just dropped of the rear axle. Now we can nail down diminsions . We have solved our transition issue by moving it back. It looks much better with the transition at the shoulder area of the cockpit rather that at the cowl. This week we are cleaning up the bus to display at the BHam World of Wheels

  29. I have seen the car but have not looked at the build yet
