Well we got a little de railed over here. After switching jobs and a grandpas passing the hotrod motivation sorta fell by the wayside. But recently I fell into a 65 Ford pickup with a 390 and a 4-speed behind an old barn. So naturally I drug in the truck back to the farm where my hot rod flame was lit once again.

Which leads me to what happened on Sunday a friend texted me that had recently acquired a 1938 Ford pickup and was not going to be using the motor in his not so hamb friendly build. So being the nice guy I am I said I'd gladly take it off his hands. I didn't expect him to tell me just to come over and get it and it was mine! Haha but I figured I'd share my findings with you all. The plan for the 38 motor is to hop it upand drop it in the model A after I'm done crusin the 21 stud. Then the 21 stud may get dropped in to my "T"time project.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather, but glad that you've got the hot-rod spirit once again!

When you first mentioned the '38 motor I thought you were going to go real wild and try dropping the flathead into the 65 and really have people scratching their heads.

Sorry about the loss of your grandpa. And as someone who recently went through a job change and a move I understand things can get real hectic. Keep at it.

  14. Gotta love the old '65 Ford truck, I've had mine since the early '70's and was my daily driver for many years, now it's sitting in the barn awaiting it's turn in the garage, I love that old truck. HRP

While he’s waiting for anyone to chime in with flatty knowledge I’ll add some photos. Everybody likes photos

9T = 1939 truck like BIG truck. But you knew that.

Similar to the 38 block but bigger mains. Also found this from the guy who would know

Though while you can push one out pretty far it’s still a Flathead water heater and you might not want to make those bored any closer to the water passages than you really need to. 60 tho isnt gonna make you much more power that 30 but it could start to effect cooling. I’d clean them up and put a good designed piston in there and not worry to much about size.

Oh and it’s a 239” motor. First year for that size!

My advice would be take a road trip over to Baxter ford in Lawrence with Jimmy and I and we can find out what the “recipe” for a nasty street motor with this block is! That way you can move forward knowing you’re not buying stuff that’s. It going to help any.
