The bumpers on my '59 Dodge pickup need straightening. They are very heavy, thick metal, and beyond my ability to work. Is there any place in the bay area- or even in California - you guys can recommend?

I tried Faith Bumper Svc in Gilroy, and was told (unconvincingly by a girl who didn't seem to know much) that they don't do it. Where else to look?

The only places I've found so far even remotely in the area are:

New Age Metal Finishing in Fresno, and
Auto & Truck Bumpers in Hayward

Has anyone here had any experience with either of these businesses?

Chrome plating companies straighten bumpers before plating.

I am trying to remember who did my Lark bumpers. I think it was Valley Chrome in San Jose. They did a very, very good job. I am very happy.

I took mine to a friend's body shop. The bumper guys picked up weekly. Took a couple weeks but my Falcon bumpers turned out great. Don't know the name of the shop but I think most body shops have access.

Yeah. Actually I left mine at Dollar Rent a Car at SFO and I think they told me it was Valley Chrome that did their work. Turned out good.

    Thanks guys.

I have a friend who services heavy equipment and has a very large press and lots of experience using it. He has volunteered, so we are going to give it a whack ourselves next week.

If the result isn't good I'll call Valley.

Bay Area = listen to Mr. Fox, dang I wish I still lived there, just to spend a few afternoons doing grunt work around his shop.

If he told me to "go to Moe's" for my XXX, I'd do it.
