  2. The best Ford intake is the 1957 ECZ 9425-B single 4 barrel. This manifold accepts late style Holley and Carter 4 barrel carburetors. It can be produce up to 325HP. Any of the aftermarket aluminum ones will work good as well.
Camshaft: Isky 301444. One step up, the 301333 will give you more of an "idle". I used the 312 supercharger cam in my 272 and it worked great.

You should probably get a copy of this:http://www.mre-books.com/ford/engines/102196_y_block.html Y-blocks have a valve lifter that is solids only, never was hydraulic available for the y-block.Also that is not an EZ swap, click on this and scroll down to post #21 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/anybody-got-a-y-block-in-a-shoebox.177373/ This shows the swap step by step with pictures. Also in the aftermarket y-block parts will cost double or triple and more than a later 302 SBF will if you decide to go that route you should stop by here:http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/social-forums/1952-59-ford-social-group.282/

It is much cheaper to put a later 302/5.0 Ford in your '53 and there are kits available to do it,if you want the y-block look one of our members has an adapter kit to use y-block valve covers, see below. fake y-block.jpeg
