I am planning on running Buick 2 1/2 inch drums with 58 buick backing plates and 46 ford hubs. I have the backing plate adapters , can anyone fill in the gaps in this instalation. I have read numerous articles and it seems some use 40 hubs and others 46 hubs on the ouside of the drum. Thanks appreciate any help.

You can use either - use what you've got. Machining will be decidedly different for each and that's why most prefer the later hubs... Check the Tech Archive articles here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=166339
29Rat or Karaskustoms sells an adapter that you can use with 40 ford spindles. It's alot cheaper than going with the Wilson Welding 46 ford hubs. I went with Wilson Welding before I had the adapters from 29Rat. Also, you mentioned that you were going to use 2.5 inch buick drums. I assume you didn't mean the 58-59 vintage. Those are virtually non-existent. You can still get the 2.25 inch aluminum 45 fins. Let me know if you need a pair, I still have a least one set I'm selling.
