The bubble top deal reminded me of this "cartoon article" from Rod & Custom about the Mysterion. I was under the impression that Roth did his own glass bubbles.

I'm workin on a 32 roadster with a bubble top. The car may be taking a new direction. The biggest thing that won't change is I plan on driving the car.

The car is sorta mothballed for the summer. I need to get my 34 ready for Bonneville. The plan is to have the bubble top done for Detroit then drive it to the Lonestar round up.

  10. I thought Ed Roth made the mold and broke a few before farming it out to a glass shop. There is a photo of the mold in front of his shop on the internet. Ghostworks, who blew your top?????? There is a guy down here that makes them......

Bubbletop cars just naturally are in their own category, aren't they? Yours looks good and to me it looks right, like a show car built in '64-'65 out of a wrecked T-Bird.

Lots of nice work. I'd be interested to see more pics if you've got 'em.

There's no mold process for a bubble top, it's more of a template. To blow a hemispherical round shape, a table with an air fitting in it is constructed. The plastic sheet is heated, then clamped to said table under the template (round hole for a hemisphere, oval hole for more of a jet canopy look). Air pressure is applied and the bubble begins to rise! For the record, Darryl Starbird was Mr. Bubbletop, not Roth
