Well, you have my permission, I remember making my pinewood derby car with a bubble top plus 14 layers of gold and purple testors candy paint. We had skinny wheels then!
If you do use my sketch, make sure to send me a pic of the final car. Good luck!

BOSS!....Logan's pretty set on your car. We'll be posting pics of the entire build just like last year. I may build my car for the Parents Class based on the Britt Design, just depends on time.

Here's a few from adult competition I did at work. Got another one coming up, so need to figure out a design for this years.

Red and white is a .... well, I don't need to explain what it is here!
Second place for race, 2nd place for show.

Orange woody - again, you all know what it is.
LAST place for race (it was slooooowwww), 1st place for show!

Silver one is a 1938 Auto Union. Has removable wheel covers. Sorry for the tiny pic. 3rd place for race, 3rd place for show.

Here's a pic of one I made to get a good car length or two head start. Once the starter peg started to drop into the track, this thing was gone.:D

  12. Ed, if you're still around, this is a cool post. I can't believe I MISSED IT.

    That car turned out great!

When my guys were participating, we had fun building these. There has rarely been more than 20-25 boys participating in my little town each year either so my guys did well more than a few times:

These are Ian the elder's, the black "Hot Rod" won it's pack, the over all and people's choice for design. The Patriot took 2nd and again won for design

Matthew, the younger did well too, I think the red 'stang (Venom) won over all the
year it raced I need to get pictures of his last on, a hot rod train:

  13. Matthew has another one he designed and made, pretty much, himself, I'll need to dig up the photos for now, here's mine, built for the adult run that never happened. It couldn't
beat the top 3 kid's cars that year but it took the whole field the following year with no alteration. yea, I'm a big man...

I did a facelift to the Auto Union Streamliner I posted earlier (post 159)

Put a buffable silver on it, and then hit it with a silver past wax from the craft store. You can floss your teeth in the reflection. :)

They need to come up with more adult built racing. Cub Scouts get all the fun.

    Love the white walls!

7car7....for the engine turned numbers, i copied an image of engine turned panel and photoshopped it onto the numbers...it helps that i'm a graphic designer. :) I wanna try to figure out a simple way of making mini moon disks without a lathe for next year.

I used small stainless fender type washers as wheel covers. The opening was almost exact for the nail/axles, but they dont have the shape a moon disc does.
