Been keeping my eye on this car for awhile now. Its been hiding in a garage in south omaha near my house, and guy finally decided to sell. Pretty excited about it. Always wanted a 40 ford. Texas car till the late 80's, no rust. Body is very straight, nice patina. Starter is hooked up and the engine turns, should be running shortly. I think a dropped front axle is in order.
Wow, that is an incredible find. At 70yrs old now, you don't see them in that kind of original condition anymore. Congrats-
The first thing you need to do is remove the side grill trim pieces and send them to me. Trust me, you don't want those. Cool car!
Thanks. I know what ya mean. Usually they've been messed with in some way.....worst case streetrodded.
Congrats on getting your dream 1940 car. Looks like the side panels on your grille have 11 bars on the top, 10 bars in the middle and 10 bars on the bottom. Look closely and you will see that the metal strip where the stainless horizontal trim pieces attach are almost as narrow as the trim. Your side panels (with the 11,10 and 10 count) are the very early panels that Ford made for the 40 Ford. It was changed to 10, 9, and 9 later on and the metal strip where the stainless trim bars go is much wider than yours. My 40 has 10, 9 and 9. See photo. Just for the heck of it count yours and see. It looks like your ashtrays pull out from the top. The 40 Ford Book, published by the Early Ford V-8 Club of America says on page 3-15: Early cars have ashtrays whose covers open up from the bottom. Late cars have ashtrays that swing out from the top with the pivot at the bottom. Could you have a combination of both late and early? My 40 ashtrays open from the bottom (indicating earlyproduction) but the grill panel count indicates late model production. An early accident and a junk yard front end may be why.
Looks like it still got the radio! The door panels look good! Make sure the brakes work and go for a cruize!
Sweet ride there. Here's another vote for making sure that the brakes are up to snuff before venturing out on the street.
...and another, busted a wheel cylinder on my own 40 tudor while going through Colorado on Orange Grove Ave in Pasadena, every time I see the Rose Parade I remember it,rolled for blocks in full panic. ebrake didn't work so good either...you have a great car there, good score!!
Nice find. I grew up in Omaha. I'm a '40 guy as you can tell from the pics. Most beautiful car ever made. (IMHO!) I agree that seat cover has got to go FAST! E-Z BOY interiors has the patterns for '40 seats and can sew them up and ship them to you.
Thanks guys, Im excited to get goin on this one. The seat cover is already gone. I dont dig the green checkers either. Surprisingly enough the front seat is in great shape underneath! That ugly thing actually did it some good. If I could get that car to sit like Labold's I could die a happy man.
