Had a guy tell me he had an old convertible body on his farm with a rumble seat. I had to check it out! But it's so far gone I'm not sure what it is? The pix are taken with my phone so not good but it does have a Briggs plate on the firewall. Anyone want to lend speculate on make and model based on this data?
Could the body tag have been added somewhere through it's life? The extra hole and the round head screws really don't look "factory".
http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/b/briggs/briggs.htm "In 1924 Briggs took their firm public, and with 60% of its stock, Walter O. Briggs became a multi-millionaire overnight. The following year, Briggs Mfg. Corp. produced half a million automobile bodies, posting an $11 million profit, and its shareholders received an incredible 200% dividend." The linked page has lots of info about Briggs making bodies for Ford, Chrysler, and others. Lots of engineering drawings, too. Think it is the same company?
That my Friend IS a '35-'36 Plymouth Roadster !! The Last of the MoPaR Roadster's. Very Rare car, 2 Seat with a Rumble ... If you can get it .... GET IT !!! I chased one here local for a long time but the owners would rather it sit full of Oak Tree Leaves than sell it to anyone ... Then one day.. IT WAS GONE ! Dunno what ever happened to it.
I imagine it could be dangerous to the body cutting down that 12" tree out from the rumble seat area. Yikes. Please save it, or give/sell it to someone who will.
30 years ago, there was a 35 DeSoto conv in Munroes junkyard in Owls Head Maine. I did not try to buy it because the doors were missing...and if I recall correctly, there were only 150-300 made in 35...so I knew I'd never find doors. Check the total conv production on 35 & 36 ply, dodge, desoto and I think it should show how rare it is. Your pic shows the top irons are there and it likely still has the window guts...I'd try to get it saved by someone.
The owner said he had a friend who would get the trees cut out/down for me and it was mine for the taking. He said he has suspension front and rear, headlight bar and lights, and other misc. parts for it. It's rough but I don't remember ever seeing one before.
Its only work Get IT!! I think its a Plymouth 1936 Convertible . Roadsters have folding front window, and NO rollup door sidewindows. http://www.azcarsandtrucks.com/1936plymouth.html
Good find there's plenty there to work with and you could use parts from 36 coupe or sdn. to finish it.
Same body as my 36 Dodge RS Convertable I believe they made 1500 of those. Grill shell does indicate Plymouth.
Need to snatch that one up! Make sure you count the tree rings so you know how long that trees been growing through the rumble!
That has some great potential if you are up for the challenge! More pictures here: http://www.chaca.com.au/viewGallery.php?g=2008 presentation day
On further inspection of the windshield... could it be a Cabriolet?? Defiinitely a 36 and not a 35 like the roadster in the above picture. At least based on that grille shell that's laying in the trunk/rumble area.
I dig those rumble seats...heck! if someone was wanting to give away their heap i'd jump on it in a second! GRAB IT!
When I first looked at that I thought it might have been a Chev because they did produce a roadster for 1 year I think it was in 1937 to 39, I know out here you could get Chev roadsters all the way through. Are there any gauges in there that might give a better clue. But looking at the other photos of the Mopars I am only guessing now.
