So today I went out to the wilds of Long Island and bought this... Runs good, paint job looks fair from 20 feet but up close has lots imperfections but it's fine for a driver.. needs a hood hinge but comes with a pair. Looks like a tuneup and a water pump and Im on the road. Was advertised for $3300.. it's rust free, I didn't even haggle.
I say, lose the door handles, send it Earth bound by about 5", factory skirts on the rear, noes it and deck and call it good!
The chrome is pretty nice, the stainless is real nice. Short term plan is Aerostar springs, 3" blocks in the back, and some reverse chromes and whitewall bias plys. But Im not gonna do ANY of that till I rip that godawful 3rd brake light out and kill it with fire.
Y-Block! And a Fordomatic... stupid stupid question time, I'm told that this is a 2-speed Automatic, I thought it was a 3 speed but the first was like a granny first. Oh, more pics!
Man, I'm insanely jealous. I love early Fords. And I have no probs w/4 drs. They a time machines, too. - They aren't stacked row on row like 2dr htps at shows - Everyone trips out about owning them so they are alot cheaper - They are PERFECT STILL for a family, so I don't have to wait on my kids to get their asses in or out of the car! LOL And keep the door handles! But yes, lower it.
Nice buy! In a 54 is would be a 3 speed that stars out in second gear if you put it in D. For first gear starts put it in L. Ford did make a 2 speed from 59 to 64 with an aluminum case.
That's what I thought the tranny was... that 1st was a granny low and ya had to shift into low to get it to even engage. And I have no problem with Sedans, I think they look more balanced, but maybe that's just me. For the money there's NO way I could say no either. Will have this sucker on the road this weekend.. can't wait!!
I had a '54 Ford when I was in High School some 45 years ago,,,and working on a '54 Ford wagon now. HRP
I just handed down my "54 Ford fordoor to my oldest son in Dayton, Ohio just 3 weeks ago, and I miss it every day. Great driver fun car and always got lots of looks. I'll look up some pics and put them up. Oh And nice car.
First year for the ball joint front end. Nice cars. There are things that make the rockers oil better. Search for that if it's been sitting long.
i think losing the rear door handles and some custom tailight lenses would be great lowering would be alright too. get some one to shoot your color witha spectrometer and get some acrylic enamel to do the spots as you fix things so you dont have a blob of primer NICE CAR i am envious good luck on perking the new toy out
Nice buy. Looks like you got a good one. It brings back memories. I had a $50.00 '53 in the high school days. Ran it two years. I'd be inclined to run that one a bit before tweaking to your fancy just to see if any major issues surface. You might check out the Fordbarn 54 & up section.
Got a status report on that alternator yet? edit: i just saw your reply in the post in the social group!nevermind.
Shoot, figured I'd update this. Here's a more recent pic, thanks to a real mild winter I've been driving the wheels off of it, put over 4k miles on it since back in august. Still debating wheels... Dis throw some Crestline caps on it but I'm not sure about em. Need to get it lowered tho that's for sure.
What's not to like about your '54,,the car looks great, the color gets in my eyes and it's a beautiful driver. HRP
Love the car, and I am a big fan of 4 doors. 4 doors for 4 whores lol Dont shave the rear door handles, be proud!
Beween you and me...I'd lower it - level, no tilt front or back - and leave it alone. I especially like that you've decided on wide whites and hubcaps rather than your initial plan to go with chrome wheels. Very classy ride!
