Bought this 47 Ford coupe at an estate sale last Saturday. Title envelope has a receipt in it that says the former owner bought the car in 1961 at a junk yard for $20. He was building a gasser but it never was completed. The motor that is in it is supposedly stock 392 except for an Isky cam. I bought the loose motor too ( '57 392 +.060)and it is supposedly "full-race" built 30 years ago by an area machine shop that is still in business. Car has a nice body, Mopar posi rear end and trunk load of parts. Best thing I found in the trunk was a folder with every receipt for the car and the engine with all engine specs etc.

Will it still be a gasser some day?

Cant be anything but a gasser in my opinion, for lots of reasons!

Great score! Not one, but two 392's and a Moon tank stashed in the trunk to boot!

so, did you at least give him his $20 back, or did you negotiate a better deal?

Was a bit worried about condition of the loose motor as it had been sitting on the concrete floor of his garage since 1970. I knew at the auction that both motors turned over with a wrench but that was all I knew. I pulled a valve cover after I got it to my shop and it looks good. It also has an Isky cam.

Congrats - keep us posted as project progresses - so, what is 1961 $20 worth in today's world?

Does have 49 Lincoln tail lights and found those behind the seats. Katuna...if those seats weren't green they would be NHRA legal!
