I can't agree more. You did do one hell of a job. And I want to thank you for the great build pictures you posted. It gives me a view of how to go about the set up I will follow on my own rebuild.

When you think about it, and want to really piss off some people, most of the muscle cars from the 60s and 70s were just family sedans with a big block wedged in there and some extra trim.

Back in my high school days, 64, a friend got a 60 Rambler 4 door as the hand me down driver. He did well with the 6 cylinder but picked up a totaled 58 Olds. He got that engine stuffed in the Rambler made things work & surprised a lot of folks. That old sedan was a major sleeper.

The 59 speedo is pretty weird, too....but it works, which I think is quite a feat. So many of them don't, after 60+ years.

Has all the basic components. The placement of the odometer so you can see the speedo needle is fine by me. But why isn't there a X10 on the speedo it self? "Weird" ;)

I had a '63 770 Classic with that speedometer and I remember joking with a friend of mine, he was driving it and I said how fast are you going, he said "we're doing about six".

But they only go up to 12 from the factory officer. I was just trying to get up to speed judging from how fast the speedometer feels. As he slaps the hand cuffs on and hauls you off to jail. :(

A speedometer that goes to 12. Hey, that's one better than Spinal Tap's amplifiers that only go to 11.

Yep, when I was in HS I wouldn't even think of a 4dr or anything boring, it had to be a 2dr preferably a hardtop, or conv. Never liked 49-54 Chevrolet's either. Wouldn't mind having one of those today, but still don't like old 4 drs

But that's a large part of the appeal, isn't it? The ponycars too: what made them what they were was the conceptual commonality with bread-and-butter sedans, which implied that the lowliest Nova could theoretically be specced like the most badass Camaro — and doing it yourself is a mere matter of mixing and matching. They lost that key aspect after the related sedans ceased to be RWD.

I seem to remember a friend of mine had a mid sixties Rambler with air and one of the air conditioning settings was "for desert only".

  23. A neighbor's auction back in the '90s featured an Airflyte with all the parts, a real barn find. I'd never seen one before or since, until your post today. It went for $4,000 and change, too rich for my blood, but someone got a restorable car for a good price, I thought.

Weather Eye is the American Motors marketing term for "heater".

Actually weather eye was Nash/ramblers marketing for the heating, cooling and ventilation system.

I cannot afford to invest in one, but I'm guessing these are still available for decent prices, '50-'53 Plymouth Suburban....one of the nearest renderings I ever saw was a Steve Stanford, non- HAMB drawing of one done Cal Look VW style, it could EASILY be duplicated on one!
