Seems that these days, everyone loves boring old cars. You know, the kind that you wouldn't have been caught dead in 50 years ago. Station wagons, 4 doors, even Ramblers.

I just got this one, it looks like it really only has 61k miles on it. But it got left out in the sun, after collecting some rust underneath. After some fiddling with the fuel and cooling systems, and giving it a new set of shoes, it's driving pretty well. It has the six and three on the tree, of course. (and I know you'll ask, yes it has the fully reclining seats that turn into a bed)

People honk and point and thumbs up. It's weird. Don't they know what a pile these cars were, and still are?

  2. I’d drive it.
With one of those ear to ear smiles.

one thing I like about working with students is they haven’t been taught to hate 4 doors or odd ball cars like yours.

old rides are old rides and that =s cool.

My Dad brought one of those home in station wagon form in the early 70's. As a kid I thought it was UGLY!. But your right, I'd drive it today.

My little brother had one of those back in the late 70's. he painted it black with flames. (rattle can) that 6 banger was so worn out and used so much oil that he started out using the re refined stuff they used to sell, but switched to carrying a 2 gal gas can full of drain oil in the trunk for adding... needless to say it did not last very long, but he still talks about that dumb car.... 87B30FE4-3287-4E33-988B-0AD05651A15D.jpeg 4565F7D3-27B0-4A9D-ACFD-BEBCD33ABC6A.jpeg

I like how the grill letters have been changed to read "LAMER"
Seems cool to me. I would rather drive a rough looking classic moredoor, than a glossy $75k modern econobox.
Seems all but a few modern cars only come in 4 doors anyways, so I think that is a big reason kids don't see them as 'boring old people cars'

I think Gas Monkey did a Rambler SW . That’s what someone told me . . You will definitely stand out at a car show/cruise in.

  14. At 66 it had to have been cool during my impressionable years..if it wasn't then, it certainly isn't now.

  15. Is Lamer getting ready for the Lemmons drive?

  16. "People honk and point and thumbs up" because it's not another silver, black or white plastic blobby thing with all the styling of a potato.

I wouldn't be caught in anything 50 years ago because I wasn't born until 1980. These cars aren't boring anymore because so few of them are left. I love the '57 Chevy as much as anyone and I daily drive one but when that's all you've seen for late 50's cars for 40 years, these cars really look unique and different.

The popular cars had a much higher survival rate, so they've become boring. The unloved and wacky stuff no one saved, and since so few are left, they've become much more interesting, especially to those who want to be different.

I'd drive it too, although I'd have to do something with the hood and roof before Wisconsin turned it into soil.

There was a grudge drag race at one of the early Hamb drags between @Tuck and @Rocky they both had beater ramblers. I could be wrong about this part but I think the timing device used for that race was a sundial

    I LOVE IT...but I'm a little bias towards Ramblers.

My parents on their honeymoon in their brand new '51 Airflyte Convert. 10 months later, they brought me home from the hospital in it.

I've even owned a couple Ramblers myself.

Almost bought a '59 like Jim's, but here in the northeast, these uni-body Ramblers didn't survive very well...it looked solid but was just too rusty underneath:(

Tweak the lyrics a bit....Allman Brothers wont care. I like the oddball cars, I had a 58 Edsel Wagon most everybody took a liking to.

Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can
And when it's time for leavin'
    I hope you'll understand,
That I was born a ramblin' man

I once met a guy at a car show who had a 1960 Rambler/Rebel R... beautiful original car, bought it some years ago cheap because, at the time, it wasn't considered a desirable car.

  28. I was thinking basically the same thing. Definition of boring for me is something repetitive. Always a pleasure to see something different. I have great respect for the odd balls brought back to their former glory knowing how difficult the part search must have been.
