I have a T-10 4 speed that I need some info on if I may.
It is a Ford trans with the small bellhousing pattern
It seems I need a shorter tail housing or longer output shaft ??

The end of the output shaft is around 7/8" inside the tail housing.

Also, the bearing retainer is a smaller diameter than my FE transmission
The round part that located into the bellhousing
    ……………………………………………………………………………………………………….

    Total length 27.1/2"

Input shaft 6 1/8”, front of case to end of shaft
    10 spline

    Tail shaft 17 1/2"

    Case T 10 B-Y
    W.G. DIV
    W-1

    Tail T-10 B-7
    W.G. DIV
    WI

    Side cover T-10-148B
    WG DIV

    Output shaft is 26" long
    I counted 28 splines

    1st gear teeth 36

    2nd gear teeth 30

    3rd gear teeth 28

    4th gear teeth 26
    .................................................................................................
The trans out of my trucks input shaft is 6 1/2", it has a 352 FE engine.
The truck trans have the same length input as a small block

I got this info from the web.
T10 H 1 = iron case 1965 & up ( dual bolt pattern ) Replacement case with that date code...
    T10 H 7 = Fairlane length iron tail ( apx 15 1/2 " long ) Yes , the shifter is in the same location as a Galaxie....
    Mustang T10 apx 24" long
    Fairlane T10 apx 25 1/2" long
    Galaxie T10 apx 27 1/2" long

    ................................................................................................................
    My trans.

  2. It looks like you may have a 'frankentrans'; one built out of mismatched parts. That's a '62-64 main case (narrow pattern) that if you have a dual-pattern bellhousing it will fit EXCEPT for the bearing retainer. When Ford changed the pattern, they enlarged the retainer and you'll need the larger unit (or an adaptor sleeve) to properly locate the trans. The later retainer will bolt on. Also check the pilot shaft length on the input; the small-block ones are too long for the FE, shorten to match.

Tailshaft housing.... hmmmm. The one you have may be a '62 unit, I don't recognize it. The one you linked to is a Fairlane unit, that will place the shifter forward. '63-66 Ford used basically three tailshaft housing designs; a short one for the Mustangs/Falcons/Comets which was cast with two shifter locations (with the forward mount partially machined off for Mustang applications), the Fairlane unit (slightly longer), and full-size (longer yet), with the shifter a bit further back from the Fairlane but not as far as the Mustang.

So you have two choices; get a output/main shaft that matches your tailshaft, or use a shorter tailshaft but then have to mix/match shifter parts to get that where you can reach it.
