Ive been working on final welding and grinding on the frame. Also drilled all the original 32' holes on the sides and the bottom. Just wanting it to look more like an original frame.

I got the frame mounted on a couple engine stands. Now I can get going on the bodywork and paint. It should go really fast cause im only going to block the sides of the frame. Everything else im just going to paint as is where its all new metal.

Yeah that looks great Chris!!! I'd like to add the original holes as well to mine when the time comes, it's just a neat detail and makes thing look more authentic as a hole. Keep us posted!

With the setup on the height of my engine I needed to go with an electric fan. I was able to get one that was 16" which the core of my radiator happened to be exactly 16" square. But I didn't want the electric fan to stick out like a sore thumb so I painted it and antiqued it to look like aged brass. At least now it blends in a little more.

    Chris,
this fan is really something! I hope you don't mind when I copy this idea a little for my roadster...I always thought there must be a way to "cover" this ugly black plastic!
    great thread...
    take care, Peter

Great idea on the fan. Why didn't I think of that? Keep us posted on the final stretch.

Nice attention to detail (BTW that goes for the whole car)! How about cloth covered wires to go with the fan?:D

    One of my favorite threads!

I got the outside rails sprayed with primer. Im going to be paint the outside rails with black lacquer. Then i'll spray the inside parts of the frame with a modern single stage black to protect them more.

honestly the hood top and sides are better than the insert IMO

  17. Chris, Your touch on the fan is KILLER DUDE! Someone should produce this as it would sell. Nice attention to detail. Can't wait to see it next Aug.

I agree about the fan. You can still see that its an electric if you know that but I think it will blend in re!ally well and hide itself when its installed

Those hold up my radiator. With the un-dropped 32' axle and the spring mounted in the wishbones. The top of the frame is about level with the top of the axle. So my radiator needed to be shortened in order for the axle to not hit it.

I've been using nitrocellulose lacquer on all the sheet metal. So I wanted to make sure that the outside of the frame matched. Especially where the beltline's of the car have the same black lacquer. The inside I'm just wanting to protect as much as I can from the elements.

I got the frame cut and buffed today. Im amazed on how much deeper the lacquer on the frame rails looks than the modern single stage black on the inside of the frame. Im super happy on how well it buffed out.
