Third full week in Aug but starting on Monday next year so they can get rooms. They made some kind of a deal with the casinos from what I heard
This may screw it up for me going. If we left on Friday after work we could be down there Saturday morning. Enjoy the show till Monday afternoon and be able to be back at work on Tuesday. I don't have enough time off to be able to go down with the new scheduling. Now I'm bummed.
That retarted... I heard tht all the money is made on the weekends. Thats when the kool cars are there and thats when the spectators arrive is on the weekend.....
They said that they are going to run that schedule to help racers get rooms since the casinos have been so difficult in the past. According to the the SCTA at the driver's meeting and the rep from the casinos there they are not going to schedule anything else that week. NO golf tournaments, poker tournaments or keno blitzes-- just speedweek like it used to be. I guess they are going to offer racers an additional 500 rooms at the usual rate, not some extreme inflated price like everyone else. I think that they are also maybe going to comp the SCTA some rooms. From what I hear they alone take up an entire hotel. The schedule is not set in stone quite yet, they took some kind of vote and pretty much agreed on it though. And they also said if it totally tanks and doesn't work they will go back to the old way. I can see where it would suck for "locals" (the western US) because you all make a weekend out of it. But for people like me taking a whole week off it really doesn't matter what day they start. Like someone mentioned before though, it is about the racers first. Whatever works best for them works for me. If you are thinking about going, DO IT! It is AMAZING!
What Megan said it exactly what they said to everyone at the drivers meeting. They also said for first hand info regarding anything related to Speed Week that a person should go to their website for offical word and not listen to word of mouth on the internet. The officals seemed alittle peeved at the rumors they heard in the week or so leading up to the event. Imagine that....rumors on the internet......
Dakota kid, Speed week is not about the spectators or the "kool cars" that come... Its about the racing and the racers.....
If the racing starts on Monday the 18th does that mean the tech inspections are on the weekend of the 16th and 17th? Trying to figure it out for making room reservations.
