    Thanks for not calling them tankERS. They are tanks angered is no ER in tank. And a one to nothing baseball score is not 1- nil".........
     
  3. I agree! ... calling them belly tankers has long been one of my many pet peeves (along with calling a '28-'31 Model A Coupe a "5 Window Coupe") :D

    However ...

    There is quite a lot of historical evidence that they were called "Belly Tankers" ... I'm thinking it was nothing more than the combination of the words "{Belly} Tank" & "Lakesters" (i.e., a portmanteau).

    Here's a a late 1951 or early 1952 photo of Earl Evans' Belly Tank Lakester at a car show:

    my friend's V8-60 powered ride at Bonneville this year, and others, 20180825_130506.jpg 20180825_130523.jpg may have new owner soon
