I am having major headaches over a 12 volt fuel pump install ….I have burnt up 4 so far !!
I have done many of these with no problem
Just TWO wires …positive and negative right ?
    I had an in-line 5 volt fuse on the last 2 ..
    blew them. Immediately
    All voltage is 12 volts
Does anyone have any ideas ?

Where is your pump elevation wise to the tank? Is your pick up line free and clear?

Burning up pumps or fuses? Fuses are rated in amps. A five amp fuse probably isn't able to handle the amperage draw from the fuel pump.

What pump, what pressure is it making, what current is it drawing, in what way does it die (autopsy time!)?

if the pump is two feet above the tank, that's the first thing you want to fix....put it below, or at least level with the bottom of the tank.

And tell us what kind of pump it is, there are a lot of them, and they don't all work the same way.

    Efi pump or carby pump?
Are you using a non return fuel pressure regulator to tame an efi pump down to carby pressure?

    What Brand style,
    Bad Ground or Hot,
Or touching , bad power switch,
    Arcing ,
    Try new test leads ,
Gauge wire is not heavy enough,
is there a relay in the wiring ? Or required?

Bench test before installing that way you can see if pump or existing Wiring .

More on electrical. Does the vehicle use positive ground vs negative ground?

There isn't enough information to answer your question.
It's time to post photos of your pump and it's present installation location
    and how it's wired.

    Critical questions -

    1 - Pump brand ?
2 - Pump height from the bottom of the fuel tank ?
3 - Is the wiring clean ? That is is there ANYTHING else wired into the PUMP wiring ?
4 - Fuel line...INTO the pump and OUT, size (diameter) ?
5 - Fuel filters before and after the pump) clear, NOT plugged ?
    6 - Pump power wire size ?
    7 - Wire length ?
    8 - Relay in the system ?
    9 - Switch type (quality) ?
    10 - CLEAN and TIGHT ground ?
11 - What is the pump grounded to ?

    That's a start question wise !
