Well we did it again. Firstly thanks to everyone who came along and made it what it is/was. Thanks to Wayne ( peddro) for the poster - as usual a wall hanger. And also Thanks to Dave who for many years made this a great run but decided last year to focus on family and other things.

I had mixed feelings going into this one for multiple reasons, I think we've all had an interesting 12 months and multiple other fronts have been taking my focus as I'm sure most people have had too.

The weather was in doubt as it was forcast for some rain , which always makes me wonder 'how much?' Especially when you drive a roadster with no roof. Plus that usually sorts the men out from the boys if the weather is inclement.

So when I climbed out of bed and could hear the drip , drip , drip outside, well to be honest , I thought it was done. I got wet pushing the car out of the drive not to wake the family too much and got REALLY wet getting to Peddro's , then we both got wet making our way to the start at the servo in the Black Forest.

But, regardless, we had both put effort in and well, hell, we're going to drive the route and eat some food and enjoy the day regardless. So we made it to the red door cafe and set up while enjoying a perfect egg and bacon roll with a long black.

And then it happened. they started to roll in, and roll in and roll in. My worry about the weather making a decision for people wasn't warranted. We had more cars and people turn up than we knew were coming and planned for. So much so we ran out of maps of the route and posters for the participants. While that seems bad, it put a smile on my face as we had a great bunch of cars and an even greater bunch of people.

So we had breakfast, did some BS'ing , did a drivers meeting, and hit the road. total of 130km over two hours of driving with 2 stops along the way. One an old stomping ground of my youth and then a feed at again a local cafe from the area I grew up.

All in all a great day, one of the best, oh and the day ended like the start, with a little rain. But even that couldn't dampen my spirits by then.

So here is the fantastic poster from Peddro

So the roadster read to go Friday night, washed and vacuumed, not that that was worth it!

  3. I, too own a roadster, and have driven it in the rain. My mother used to ask, " what do you do when it rains ?", my answer was, " you get wet". I'm glad that you had an excellent turnout. It has been a tough year for most of us. I went to a flea market yesterday in Maryland, about 65 miles away. From the turnout there, many people wanted to get out, too. By the way, it is a great poster.

Not sure what's going on here, peddro was taking the photos at the start while I sorted out the people, so Swifty was up to something. He usually is. 20210327_092411.jpg

    leaving the start.

There was some great scenery along the way and many changes in it. Its all back roads , no highway or freeway driving, its about enjoying the drive with cool cars to see front and rear and some great Aussie landscape too.

    20210327_110438.jpg

we take the back roads to keep out of the way of potential trouble, so of course on a way, way back road we came across this

We're really getting in to the back roads, not even secondary, more like 4th.

The First stop Malmsbury at the Botanical Gardens. This is on what was the old Highway until the freeway went in a few years ago.

We were towards the back of the pack so most had arrived when we pulled in, of course thats better for photos.

Great looking cars and a great turnout. Question, I noticed most of your highboy style cars have some form of cycle fender but some don't, just curious why? Thanks

In most States you need fenders but some guys just take the chance I think that they won't be pulled over. I don't think Victoria has a "fair weather" rule but that probably wouldn't have been effective that day anyway. We don't have one here in Qld and I think our governing body was told to take a jump when it was suggested.
