I know you more than I do, but a 6-71 with a distributor? I’m a marine guy for diesels, so educate me a bit.

426 is a one several sizes of a large GMC inline gas 6 , the 503 is same engine series... A 6-71 is a GMC aka Detroit 2 stroke Diesel, 6 cylinders,71 cubic inches per cylinder... 4-71, 8-71 etc. there's also 53 and 92 series Diesels

No distributor on a 71 series diesel, Simply pointing out that 6 X 71 makes 426 cid

Yup these were engines for big trucks before the diesels became popular. There's a 361 also. This is a 1948. Another series in the '30's ranged up to a 707 incher. I've only seen one picture of it. The size difference to the 426 is about like the 426/302 picture. It truly is a monster!I know some of you guys know all this, but I've never had these two engines side by side. It was a chance for someone who's never seen one to appreciate the size. .

I have a 1962 GMC booklet showing 270 and 302 conversions for the big engine trucks. Also listed conversions for other trucks to those engines.
Jet, PM me for info on a pair of headers & an Ellis dual intake for the 426 ..

It must be a thirsty beast - it's got two fuel pump bosses.
