I have been running a 470 in my boat since 1987. I noticed that the engine did not 'sound' right during break-in. I tried premium gas and it has run well for 24 years and I never retarded the original timing. It ALWAYS shakes @ idle but has great torque and pulls well to 4700 RPM. Mercruiser recc. max 4600 w/ 2 bbl (mine) or 4800 w/ 4 bbl. The engine generates 35 amps electricity with a crank mounted stator and a $500.00 electronic, water cooled, voltage regulator. It is the VR that usually goes bad. 470 owners save money by switching to a std alt.(I did). BREEZEWORKS 470 FORUM has a lot of good info. 1 member (I believe his handle is STRACTOR) is running roller rockers.

You sent a cam out on the basis of a 11 year old post without contacting the guy first?

No I called him first and sent to him he said he would call me when he is going to work on it we was going to decide what grind to use on it

  6. Isn't there already a thread on this motor on this site that is about 70 pages long? It includes a video of one running with a Boss 429 head and a lot of information and directions that have been tried. I hope you've searched and read that thread; "460 Mercruiser" or something like that.

"The Elusive 224/3.7 Mercruiser" is the "other" thread you are referring to!

Are these engines actively in demand for hotrod builds? I've got one i just built but might have to abandon the project. So considering selling it.
