This may have been posted, but here is a link to all of an eight part interview with Von Dutch, by Big Daddy Roth. Enjoy! (Scratchy beginning, but soon gets better.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Gtb6991Hxc&list=PLCF16928CB84CADFE
Watched all eight 15 min. videos. The best saterday night I had in a while. I wrote down all that I could. My favorite: "Rust-Oleum has fish oil in it. You haven't seen any rusty fish have you?" Thanks for sharing
Great videos, thanks for the link. Grinder scratches, I'll never forget that and forever be looking for them in crappy paint jobs now...
some great wisdom about working. The best was his comparison between dopers / people who do drugs and people who drink. People drink and then say, that was a stupid thing I did. People who do drugs still think it was good the next day, and that all is good. So funny but true.
Yeah, the dopers vs. boozers comment is funny but true. The most surprising thing to me is how he invented pinstriping just fixing scrates with regular lacquer and brushes... And found out later that striping was so much easier with sign painter´s brushes and 1 shot enamel! Haha, way cool. Thanks for sharing this great piece of history...
Well put, ParkinsonSpeed! This thread gets buried fast. If you like it, bump it up for others to see.
Watched the entire thing! Fascinating to me. My great grandfather was a sign/ornamental painter. Never knew him but heard plenty stories. I have a couple of his signs he did - dating to probably the 1920's. Thanks for posting.
