I was hoping you would post a pic of your coupe. I think it's the meanest looking car on this site. The pic from the front you have posted in the past is kick a$$.

Just added this to my stable. Staggered tires are perfect. With the chop, the whole car leans forward.

    Sold this one a while ago. This car had a perfect rake. 1935 16 inch spokes, 560 x 16 front, 750 x 16 rear.

Outstanding car! I farted around for a year before I got mine right.
Started with a 4 x 16-inch wheel from a '40 Ford -- correct choice in my case because I like the exposed hub cap, but covered it with a 5.00 x 16-inch motorcycle tire -- common practice in the wayback, but a poor choice because MC tires are designed to "carve" while turning (steering) rather than remain vertical. The resulting slip-angle tends to pull the tread apart and create really strange wear patterns. Replacing them with a pair of 4.50/4.75 x 16-inch Firestone Deluxe Champions solved that problem and improved the ride and handling big time.

For the rears I wanted a look that was popular in the '40s and '50s when 6-1/2 x 15-inch Buick rims reversed on Ford spiders was the hot setup. Instead of hard-to-find good Buick wheels I opted for new 7 x 15-inch hoops on Ford spiders and covered them with 7.00 x 15-inch 'Stones. This would provide the essential offset that the reversed Buick produced to sink the hubcap a bit, plus a bit more backspace to move the tire closer to the body to compensate for the extra width of the '40 rear axle. This setup and the chubby 15s just looked fatter and fatter the more miles I put on the car -- not what I had in mind. So, I wound up my odyssey with a pair of Lincoln-Zephyr 6 x 16-inch wheels and 7.00 x 16-inch Firestone DCs. Got the look I wanted from the start.

What would be the appropriate Big/Little sizes for a stock 37 Ford Coupe with a 50’s style build?

one interesting "custom" trend was narrow 13" tires mounted on 14" wires usually with a thin whitewall especially on the lowriders.....on my model A I was going to run early '60's truck 15" rims on the front that have the same as early centers and the early 16"s out back until I found a pair of late '40's f1 15" delivery truck rims for the rear these are I think 7-8" wide from the factory...i'm a bit worried people will think they're just widened rims and i'll have to go with rubber rake instead of bigs and littles but i'll have more rubber on the road!

Got to have them, nothing ruins a "Stance and Look" of a Hot Rod more than tall wide tires on front. Wheels/Tires are critical to overall appearance on any car IMO and just by changing wheels/tires can give your Rod a whole new personality. Just the facts this AM.

    Yep
One more though, short, wide tires on the front of a hiboy, unless it's a "modern" style build with IFS, etc.
In the past it was a "trend" on solid axle cars but few could pull it off well.

This is the Nailhead coupe that Chris Casny built on the HAMB about 10 years ago. I just got it from him.

Seems like I saw this one in a book about traditional hot rods.
