Just put on a set of firestone 8.20 15 tires on 52 Chevy wheels for the back of my model a coupster. I want the same tread pattern front to rear but I'd have to get a 4.50/4.75 or a 6.00 16" to get a matching tread. The front I'm running early 40s ford 16" steel wheels. I've read some bad things about the 4.50/4.75 and there a tad small but the 6.00s seem like they would be to large. Any other alternatives out there? Anyone running 4.50/4.75 that can shed some light on how good or bad they are?
Traditional answer would be 6.00 on the front. 8.20 on the back, pretty big,7.50 more usual, they did that to increase gearing on the cheap for hi speed runs and to get more traction. You should use wider wheels. Trad solution is to weld Buick rims onto your Chev centers. What is a coupster?
It's a coupe that had the roof chopped off back in the day to make it a roadster. I ended up just ordering the 4.75 16s for the front. There is old 6.00 16s on it now but they seem to big. If the 4.75s end up being to small I'll run them on my other full fendered car and get some 5.50s I just don't like how the tread is different. The 8.20s seem to fit the 52 chevy wheels great tho
