I know this subject has been discussed before, but just in case some new guys missed it, I received an email in response to one of my want adds here on the HAMB. Always be suspicious of them not having pictures and wanting payment through Western Union or Money gram. I dont believe this is a HAMB member, just some scammer trolling the site. Below is a copy of the email. From: [email protected] Hi, I have a 39 Ford top loader transmission with 78 case for sale. I do not have images but its in excellent shape and condition. Asking $400 shipped for it. I will be shipping via UPS or FedEx whichever you prefer and shall accept payment via Western union or Money gram. What's your shipping address? thanks, Simon.
yes..... he is a member that joined yesterday. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/member.php?u=206397
Russ: Same thing happened to me this week. Sounds like the same guy. Also, you will probably hear that this is the wrong forum, there is a place to expose bad buyers/sellers. PM me for more info. Tim
I got 2 this week, from an ad on the early Ford v-8 forum...he wanted to know if I was still looking for the part, I wanted.. he is from Europe, he says and happens to be in the shipping business, could I lease send him my email....he did not even know what I was wanting..?? two from the same ad...tis the season...and his return email was a hotmail addy
When will ya'll learn the wanted ads are ripe for this scam? Just search for your part listings for sale.
I can't look at your avatar without thinking............." how much for the little girl...........the women.........how much for the women........." LMFAO!!!!!
Heads up indeed, as stated, tis the season. Don't get excited and investigate, don't give out any info at all!! Buyer and seller, BEWARE!!! ~sololobo~
yes , it seamed fishy to me too.... he joined , searched the wanted ads then sent emails there was another thread about him yesterday. he could be legitimate , but as i said it seams fishy
This same guy emailed me yesterday about 389 parts too. I busted him out on here. He's a scanner. He sent the same exact email only with 389 were the top loader was on this guys email.
Sure there's a right way to handle them. Get their address and get it on the lists the gay porn folks send their junk mail to.
He IS a scammer, I sent him a PM yesterday saying, we are watching you and there is a thread on the forum about you, haven't heard back from him..?
Contacted Ryan. He PM'd me and let me know he does not get involved in He said's. Thinking about taking it to a Antique Appraiser and getting a written statement on the TRUE condition. Take it away from the he said level.
Tim You cannot expose bad sellers/buyers until they have hustled you. It is a good thing to warn the general population but donot expect the Mods to have to look for the inform, ation in a thread. Always drop one of the mods preferably Ryan a note and let them know as well. If they determin them to be hinky they will do something and if not they would rather hear about someone being uncomfprtable than hear about someone loosing the farm.
I got almost the same message from a person responding to my want ad for a '40 PU glovebox handle over on the Ford Barn site. The person said he had one in "excellent shape and decent condition" and only wanted $100. Sometimes the scammers are both sloppy and greedy!
Prick aint worth the cost of a bullet. Not to mention many cameras between here and there. Aint like it used to be.
