Now I have a decision to make. Keep the bench I have fitted or go with a pair of these Bomber seats. I narrowed a Dodge minivan seat and fitted it into place. It fits well and is comfortable but....

I really like the bombers and they would probably be better with the theme of my build....

And they can be comfortable too... Opinions ???

    Bench..

Bombers can be plenty comfortable with the right insert though.

  4. Bench = Already have it.
Bombers = at least $500.00 more.

  5. If you upholster the bench seat to fit your build, you would probrably be happier (and more comfortable) in the long run. If you are not going to drive the car long distances, the bomber seats would be fine. My dad used to pilot a B-17 bomber and I remember him saying that they were the most uncomfortable damn seats, especially on those long missions!:)

I prefer the bench but it being your car, run what makes you happy.

Another vote for the bench. The bombers look cool but they can't be that comfortable for long drives.

    Bombers for looks.
    Bench for comfort.
I used a set of bomber buckets from the handmade seat company for my A Sedan.
Way cheaper than the ones above and he will custom make them any way you want.
Made my own pads for the back and bottom pretty cheap.

  14. The bomber thing has been over done in my opinion, although they would look good in your car.

    I say run the bench.

  15. Your butt will appreciate the decision to go with the bench........

  16. Bench!! The seats in my little Hot Rod wear my Ass out.

I put a pair of Frank Wallics bomber seats in my last deuce roadster with some 3 inch pads and loved it. The upholstery shop made some thin 3/4 inch pads that just slipped over the back but you wouldn't really need them.

The bench looks like a perfect fit..... I'd run it for now since you have it. Put it on the wish list and decide when you finish the car out.

  20. i was just going though the same delema, and all i could think of is how bad my ass hurt after sitting in a bar stool for hours (alcohol helps but you can not drink and drive)so i would go with the bench. that is if you plan on driving -sitting for long periods with out a drink!!

I've had both and it's bench all the way. Bombers are very cool but the novelty wears out quickly.

Even though I didn't start this thread, I also appreciate all of the feedback! I will certainly be going with the minivan bench that I already have, especially with all the miles I plan to put on my Roadster.

  26. Nobody's mentioned the most obvious "pro" of the bench...it's great for the hunnies to be able to snuggle up tight :)

I would go with the bench, and agree with other posts. Done right to match your car will look awesome, as well as be comfortable !!
    BUT...your call !!
Good luck, and let us know what you do..

Lots of responses to keep the bench. Sitting in it even in the mockup it is fairly comfortable.

I can probably get it an inch lower and maybe just a bit further back.

Even with the 4" stretch my bucket will be tight for legroom.

I narrowed that Dodge minivan seat 3 1/2" to make it fit.

The advantages I thought the bomber seats might give me were :

    1) A little lower seating which would help with windshield height and the top.

    2) The bomber seats may allow me to sit a little further back for a wee bit more legroom (every bit helps in these tiny cars)

    3) They look good in my eyes at least.

As far as comfort goes, would they not be reasonably comfortable with some decent density foam cushions say 4" thick in the bottom and 3" thick for the back ?

Like the ones I posted in the black roadster above.

They look like they would fit your body and hold you like a good bucket seat. I had a Datsun 280Z whch was good for long hauls.

Anyone with well padded bomber seats want to weigh in ?

Lots of good feedback so far guys, carry on. :)
