Back from Pendine after a fantastic weekend, got a good couple of runs down the sand in my coupe.

Lots of very nice cars at Pendine this weekend but this one belonging to my mate Brett is one of my favorites, really inspires me to get mine finished for next years event.

I really like your coupe. I gave it a real good once-over on Saturday in the pits. Very nicely put together by the look of it. Sounded nice going up the beach too

I saw your car at Pendine but only from behind a 7 foot high wire fence -very impressive. The only drawback was that as I couldn`t buy a pit pass all the cars were off limits!!!! I only had the day there so waiting until after the racing was finished and the cars were leaving to speak to the owners about their cars and even then it would have been impossible to follow each owner back to their caravan/tent /motorhome.It was a great day watching them though.

Well got back to working on the belly tank this week, made some mounts for the front shocks, and a set of front racing discs. I cheated with the discs and cut them on my CNC, my business is fitting out camper vans so the CNC cuts all the cabinetry, but also does a very good job of cutting sheet aluminum, not a very traditional method but hey, jobs a good um.
    Tank75.jpg
Tank76.jpg Got to add some screws, as thinking Dzus but I thing six screws per disc is a more traditional look.

    Tank77.jpg

Also made up some dogbone links for the shocks but not fitted them yet, need to machine a couple of boss's for the axle to mount the dogbones/drop links.

  13. Those discs and shocks look great! Looking at your steering box, if you had a steering arm on the top of one of your spindles like i have the steering link rod would be near straight (flat) or at least not much of a bend to it. JW

After seeing your setup I ordered a droped axle steering arm that I will mount upside down on the top of the spindle so drag link should be nice and horizontal.

  15. I tried doing that too but they don't fit because the upper king pin boss is much deeper due to the KPI. I had my one made for me that is 16 mm / 5/8'' extended to clear. You will need to space it out. JW

I didnt think that one through did I. Just looked and the upper boss is bigger, like you say some spacers should sort it out, Ive got to modify the arm anyway as I'm using 36 spindles so the bolt spacing is slightly different.

  17. I could get Drew to make you a custom one to your specs if needed, i'm sure the exchange rate would work well in your favor. $125 NZ each for me. JW

Been working on the steering, brought a quick release boss and machined up a addapter to fit it to the aircraft yoke, also did a center cap for the yoke.

Finally got steering, fabed up a drag link today
    Tank84.jpg
All welded up and fitted, I'm not quite happy with the look so going to flip the rod end under the steering arm and heat and bend the pitman arm down a bit, this will make the drag link a couple of inches lower and paralle with the axle.
    Tank83.jpg
Also welded up a push bar for the rear, real race cars get pushed off the line;)

  23. The steering and push bar look great.... whats next? JW

Juast had time to look at the whole thread. Nice work you are doing! I am also using a yoke for a wheel in my car. Mine is Beechcraft

A buddy just picked me up a yolk out of DC- 3 / C-47. Perfect wheel for a Tank or early style Dragster. Great work ! IMG_7551.JPG IMG_7552.JPG

No they can't. The officials frown on headers pointing down. I know from experience.

Never seen that rule enforced BUT most folks point them up or back to help with downforce or thrust

Going to focus on foot pedals and gear linkage next but might do a dashboard first, I've got some nice aviation gauges to go in.
