That is a Late 1931 Slant Window Cabriolet. Body style 68-C. Not many of those around.

Here's what it looks like in it's original skin. :D

It's already driven a couple of restorer type guys up a wall....

    Some specs...

    31 body (as we know)
    49 or 50 Olds 303 with later tri-power set up (2-jet's)
    34 frame
    34-ish banjo rear
    40's Ford brakes
    32 grill

I hope to get a day of work in on the old girl on Sunday. If I had it my way this would be a four day work-a-thon, but apparently there is some big holiday this weekend.

Gotta find a cool set of headlights for this thing too...

Damn I wish I could find me something like that. The only bad thing is that I wouldn't have the cash to buy it even if I found it!:p

    But wait!!!!

I gotta a few minutes while the "Fair-er Flores" get ready for.... well whatever it is we're doing, so here's a little update.

You'd figure we'd be doing burnouts by now, but I'm slow and don't spend nearly as much time as I should on this thing.

The 31's been chillin' with the Scrambler and Dave's '36 Buick Bonneville car.

First up, the front brakes. I'll share a little of the information I learned putting these together as I go.

Dave wanted to run some Bendix binders up front so we sourced a pair of early Lincoln backing plates. I did a search and came up with some info that led me to 1964 F250 1-1/8" wheel cylinders, PN# 364 shoes, a 12" spring kit and hardware, and 2 inch hold-down "nails". I also picked up some new wheel cylider pins. Everything was a near perfect fit, the shoes are made from very thick steel and needed a bit of grinding for the pins and adjuster to fit. Dave cut a few lightening holes in them and ground the edges flush .

This will be a stealthy upgrade because we'll be keeping the mid 40's Ford drums.

Dave turned them and clearanced the inner corners a bit to make room for the 12x2" shoes. I need to give these a quick 'blast and get some paint on 'em, but they're ready otherwise.

Another shot of the brake set up and those rad headers.

The 40's Ford rear backing plates will go back on.

Crummy pic, but if you have these wheel cylinders....

You'll need this kit... I got it at So-Cal here in Phoenix.

OK! No more out of focus pictures, I promise.

    Maybe just one.....

Neat-O Edmunds Custom Finned VC's... Look bitchin' and clear the adjustable rockers.

Here's the underside of the cowl. I wonder how long it took to drill out the tank...???

A few more holes to make a bigger hole. This one for the clutch master cylinder.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I like the car, but I can't help thinking you need to blow it completely apart and start from scratch, using what is there as the basis of the build, but seriously reworking the more codged up areas. Some of the things in those pics look downright scary and appear to have been done by someone with not much idea or skill. A lot of that does not want preserving and should be discarded in favour of more carefully considered and well executed work.

I may be wrong, I only have the pics to go on, if I am, I apologise.

    Mart.

Edit: I just flicked back and it looks like your rear wheel cylinders are the wrong way round. Long shoes are to the front, which is correct but the larger bore of the cylinder should also be to the front. M.

The goal for now is to get the car safe enough to show around town for awhile, we'd like to find out if anyone remembers it before we blow it completely apart. Things like the brakes, suspention, and body mounting will be sorted out before it comes off the stands.

And Mart, you caught me on those rear plates, I kinda cheated and mocked them up just for the pic.

Its back on the ground tonight, rear suspension mostly sorted out. Still have a few welds to make it 100% done. Good ole' Need Louvers? came by and helped get the wiring started the other night. Still have lots to do, but its coming together pretty quick. Hope to be out tearing ass around town in a week or two.

    Back on the floor....

That is an awesome find, I can't wait to hear it on a video. To the guys saying fix all the cobble forget it. Fix a few things that need fixing and leave the rest. There are tons of perfect cars why not let some of them be what they are.

Unbelievable! Totally unreal. Your first two images, taken from above, are just wonderful. When they find our cars 500 years from now, I bet that's what they'll all look like. Too bad there won't be any petrol in the future to run them. Gary
