After seeing the recent horror of the bad wiring threads, I think we need a good wiring thread. Post up some pics of your favorites. Could be pics of your own wiring job you wanna show off, or just some well placed strands you came across at a show. I am at my job after my job (sign of the times..) so I don't have any pics to add right now.

Heck, even plug wires! I know we spend ungodly amounts of time getting everything perfect with our cars, here's your chance to show it off!

  7. Delahaye at Pebble Beach...you know its gonna be nice...did you spot the glass coil?

  8. I saw that coil...HMMM what would it take to build one of those?

Any pressure issues? I ask that because I've had them explode before.

Nice wiring job. To be expected at PB..

  9. At first glance, I thought it was a gas filter!!:D

I sure did! Man, how would you like to come across one of those?! The engine turned firewall, cloth wires, and glass coil.... it is a perfect engine compartment. (as you said... pebble beach!)

    Wow! That is very nice.

A little more practical- on my 55 cluster.
Wired the gauges to a single plug.

Still missing some wire ties in this pic.

That Dynamat aluminum looks like it is very thin peal & stick material, is that the finished install or does something else attach over it?

I have always wanted to incorporate a large cannon plug that would disconnect the cab from the frame. A PT-6 engine cannon plug would be about the right size.

Nothing like a sanitary wiring job to finish off a good street rod and some of these shots are great examples however the glass coil and cloth wires all the same color would indicate to me a headache to trouble shoot. Being a PB car I doubt it runs on the street or any long period of time.

Actually, I think you could make yourself a glass coil fairly easily (the one in the photo looks sorta home-made). Disassemble and clean a regular coil, put it in a fruit jar...

It looks oil-cooled. Some electrical transformers use oil for cooling, the ones you see outside apartment houses with those big fins and coils.

Here's the wiring on the 32. Modern Ron Francis kit. There's a few extra circuits there that are no longer being used & the Hotronics will go soon & I'll clean it up better. This was done in 1999.

Nice but without the name of the circuit every 12" a "streetrodder" could never service it or diagnose a problem.:D:D

Ok, my fault for not asking a detailed question. What does this peal & stick stuff do? If it some wizbang space age product what does it do?

You're probably right because it is probably like a $500K - $1M+ car. And, with that kind of car, I don't think they are too worried about how long it might take someone to figure out which wire is which or if they like the color of the oil inside the coil or not. However, I am going to bet that car runs pretty damn well. Generally cars at PB run just as well as they look.

  27. The Delahaye had done the Pebble Beach tour the day before...100 mile road trip....But I digress, this is supposed to be about wiring.
