    Probably the best bio on Joaquin and the Bean Bandits was in the San Diego READER several years. Perhaps someone with better computer skills that I can find it and post it here.
    To this day, I can think of nothing more exciting than to be at the starting line at Paradise Mesa and watch the grudge races between the Bean Bandits and the Speed Sport Special out of Tucson.

    A true legend and real fine man.

    joaquin was one of my favorite people, not just a great car guy but a great family man and an amazing storyteller. the best part of the year for me was often at the big 3 swap in san diego with joaq, get a few beers in him after the bbq and he'd tell stories for hours. not just about cars but growing up, the war etc. i've only gotten to see him a few times in the last couple of years and it was tuff, he's in a much better place now.
    thoughts go out to the family including julio, dan, brad, fabian, adam, derby, aron, tom, lux, rick

    Sad news indeed. I feel really lucky to have got at least say hello to such an amazing man.
    Think about how many people were inspired by him.

    R.I.P Joaquin,
    It was a pleasure to know him and listen to all of his stories over the years. I'm sure his family and fellow Bandits will miss him deeply.

  18. Joaquin;
    He was one funny guy to listen and talk to.
    The storeys would go on and on.
    Saw him and Bean Bandits the first time in the early 50's at the old Paradise Drag strip here in San Diego.
    All the best to his family and friends.
    We miss you Joaquin and the storeys.
