Very sorry to have to you all about the passing of another Kustom legend, long time Barris Kustom body man Bill De Carr has passed away. This guy was one of the ground floor metal men who built countless Barris creations and really never got the credit he deserved. Some of his efforts , the Aztec, Dream Truck, Kopper Kart , most all of the great early Kustoms to come out of the Atlantic Blvd shop. Bill was a very very non assuming man , I can't express my sorrow at the loss of these guys. Bill had been in poor health. RIP Bill
He will be sadly missed, defiantly one of the unsung heroes of our hobby. Condolences to the family.
Such a shame..prayers to the family....A real shame he never got the credit he deserved for the work he did, just as Sam never did. Jim. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Bill was one of the "behind the scenes" unsung heros of customs. Sad to hear that he has left us. They must be building one heck of a kustom in heaven. Rest in peace Bill..........E

Picture showing a young Bill Ortega , pounding away on the Aztec hood at the Barris shop. Bill later changed his last name to De Carr, some say because of his admiration of his pal Bill Carr. However Bill once told me he did that for a very other reason. The 1941 shown that Bill owned and built while at Barris still exists in Minn. I found the car way back in the 80's and failed in my attempt to purchase it. Most think the car was later sectioned but, in fact just the bottom of the body was trimmed off...it looked sectioned but, just a trim off the rockers and bottom of the fenders. BARRESSE'
I was always fascinated by the photos of the Golden Sahara under construction and few knew that Bill Carr And Bill De Carr were the ones that did most of the work and seldom got credit. The Aztec and many others. May he rest in peace and may his family know that we here will mourn his passing. He was part of our heritage.
Very sorry to hear this sad news. I didn't get to know Bill but I have been reading and admiring his work for years. His 41 mercury is one of my favorites of all time, the stance and the fadeaways and roof just flow so good for one of the early ones. R.I.P Bill ....thanks for all you gave to our world of customs.
It would be very fitting if you guys post some more pictures of the cars he was involved with, R.I.P.
Sorry for the bad scan.......this photo is amazing, showing a young Bill Ortega and George Barris at the Ford plant in Pico Rivera where Bill worked, bumping dents out of new Fords with out breaking paint..LOL! this was 1955. The story is that George and Jim Street had enough juice to get the windshield installed at the Ford plant. Love or hate this Kustom...anyone who ever did 1 oz of body work can see the effort of labor and skill. Done by ..you guessed it BILL DE CARR. Any kind people who would like to leave a post at the funeral home where Bill was laid out can do so, it's the McCormick and Sons in Laguna Beach , California. BARRESSE'
