  13. Hi guys, thanks for being patient and for the great comments. It's amazing that everyone around the world has replied to this thread.

Human Fly, you got dad into trouble because mum read what you said about the mayonaise bottle filled with glue. That jogged her memory and told dad he was irresponsible for putting glue into a food container. She said she nearly put it in the fridge! Dad said he met you at Ballarat swap meet last weekend.:)

Now on with the build. Here is a little tease with dads '32 roadster parked in the main unfinished building.

Next job is to make the roof trusses out of balsa wood. Dad used a typical design that he has seen before. There are 6 of them all exactly the same so the roof fits.

Here they are all finished and sort of in position. At this stage, we are also making all the doors etc. out of balsa as well.

    Here is a look inside.

Here are a few cars inside. I cant wait to put everything in. We stained the trusses with a dark stain later on.

    More to follow!

  14. Now it is time to paint the ousides of the buildings. If mum catches me in my school uniform, she will get the wooden spoon out!

After studying every photo of the shop and seeing a few paintings of the buildings, we mixed up this colour.

It will need a few coates.

  16. Next dad made up all the signage on the computer. He started off to make a mask for the signwriting on the building. At the beginning, we both liked the signwriting on the main building before the fire took place, so we used that with the later signwriting on the little building that said 'color specialist', so it doesnt really all match up, but thats how we liked it.

Here is the cut mask out of the sign cutter. It is a easy to use vinyl mask that cuts easily and just right for the job.

Dad is weeding out the unwanted bits.

Every job dad does is super duper accurate.

  17. Next is to put on the mask on the building so we can paint it all. Dad did this bit.

Now dad blows the paint on with his airbrush.

This is the colour that we mixed.

After it dried just a little bit, dad pulled of the mask.

It is starting to look real good now.

Matt, you remind me of me 35 years ago - except you have way more talent and polish than I did (it's very telling that my 1/25 diorama was a wrecking yard; that hid a multitude of sins!). Somewhere around my house I have copies of original blueprints for a '50s three-bay Texaco gas station I should dig up... I'll definitely keep watching this thread!

  20. HAHHAHA sorry about that. Yeah, we met last weekend, prob see you guys the next RCCRC run.
Your doing a killer job.......cant wait to see the end result.

Matt- you are a very talented young man! Thank you so much for all the photos of your remarkable work.

Fortunate you can work so closely with your dad. I wish I could have done the same with mine when I was young.

Your work should end up in a Museum or some other place that will preserve and respect it to be enjoyed by car guys forever!
