View attachment 3539301 Picked up this 29 A Special Coupe today. Pretty complete original with zero rust thru (Calif.). He also has a primo 50 Merc 2dr coupe and a complete 27 Dodge roadster. I have a request in on the Merc, so hopefully may soon be owner of my all time favorite sled. ....God I love this hobby.
That looks like an old leather back. Are you going to keep it that way or convert to steel?? Pretty nice score. Just keep it dry until you are ready to work on it.
Great score. Hope you get the Merc, it looks like a solid start. Was the A Coupe in a fire or just severe sunburn?
that merc is actually a running car, super straight, skirts and desoto grill teeth in trunk, appleton spots both sides....just needs to be slammed on the ground and cleaned up.
The term 'Leatherback' refers to a Fordor. Please do not start spreading false information. People will be reading this forum in the future looking for the truth
Did you get the belt line molding with it? Hope so, cause to say that molding is hard to find would be a major understatement...... The ones around the quarter window also. Sure looks like a solid car, congrats!
its missing. but it does have the quarter window trim. interested to see the production numbers for this model. seen lotsa cabriolets but this is the first one of these ive seen, or noticed anyhow.
Great score--I'm sure there are many great old cars still stashed around the valley -just gotta find em. Guy I know found a really nice orig 57 Chevy Fuely in Taft a while back.
Tail light mounted on the rear sub rail is a 28, was also a drum taillight. I have had 2 Special Coupes, my avatar is a 28 that I put a V8 60 flathead in, sold it years ago and a stock 29 I still have. Always liked the body style, looks like a good builder.
Nice find. I love 28 29 Coupes and have a few myself. Spam alert: I have a belt molding for sale in the classified right now.
That is really cool. Nice find. Just curious how you found it? Did you hear about through a friend or just driving in the country side? How does everyone do it? I watch that Hagerty Barn Find show and try his methods......Try as I might I am yet to discover a barn find. I did buy a 56 HT from a farmer last week who stored the car 5 years ago but it was in a building. Not a bonafide barn find like this.
My dads neighbor tipped us off this guy was wanting to get rid of some cars...went by and asked to see what he had, hour later it was bought.
