I guess like the saying goes ' Rank has its Privlages '

And do you remember Stan Freeberg saying in his song ' Man like I don't dig Bugs ' plus you can add snakes to that for me too

If I saw that Rattler my shoes would have been smoking getting outta there

  5. If there is really a 10 foot Cobra in there he is not really out of harms way. A King can strike as far as it stands up and a spitting cobra can spit up to 10 foot accurately. :D

I would like to get a better look at the Ford, and I aint skert of no snakes. Now if there was an escaped girl in there that would be a different story, they scare the hell out of me. :D

Well now that we know the general area, the existence of the car and that the snake is gone, how many have knocked on the home owners door to buy that old heap?

The pic is cropped a bit close, but it almost looks like the coupe may have had it's drip rails removed and maybe trunk lid decked?

I appreciate the police and sheriff's departments as a rule.....but this 'stand on the car' picture should never have been posted by the department...it looks careless and irresponsible....just my opinion!

Yep, I'd be right there with you. Guarantee that's not the worst thing that's happened to that car in the last seventy plus years.

True story. My brother-in-law is a marine biologist in Vietnam, and it is a hobby as well as a job, guy is out in the bush all the time, skinny, soft spoken buddist vegetarian dude, scared of nothing. There are more nasty, venomous critters and evil parasites in the bush here than you can shake a stick at.
He did his masters at a university in Oregon. In his senior year, he came home on spring break, was chasing critters out in the jungle. Had an encounter with a spitting cobra that sprayed him in the eyes ( thats what they aim for, nice eh?) blinded him for close to a month, and he missed two semesters recovering. No shit.

I get the whole caution thing (fear?). There's something that works real well for that, self control. Trust me that it get easier as you grow older, but a mindset of 'live n let live' goes a long way. I walked right up to a paper wasp hive built in the corner of my shop garage to get a picture or 3. I didn't pause, feel fear, act jumpy, just walked up, a few seconds to assess, shot these:
    IMG_20150811_164415600.jpg IMG_20150811_164408993.jpg
Of course I took it down at the end of the season, waited for the 1st really cool day, opened the garage door and wrapped a trash bag over it, gone. I have non-poisonous snakes in my yard all the time. I admit it gives ya the willies for a second or 2 because you don't expect it. Have I encountered rattlers, cobras, water moccasins? No, but acting terrified added with the risk of getting hurt trying to escape doesn't seem like the right move. You want fear? Years ago I was clowning around on my new 165 HP sled at 1am in Nothern Michighan. Hit a nice whoopty in the trail, cracked the throttle at like 40 MPH, the front end came up and and I was riding high at something well over 60 MPH, skis dangling at least 3', and this lasted maybe for 100 yards. When I came down there's one of the biggest bucks I'd ever seen up there, so big it was likely an elk. Fear? He was less than 100 feet ahead at the trail's edge, I'm coming at him nearly wide open, nowhere to go as there's trees about 12 feet apart. I'm off the throttle, trying to ease the brake, mumbling something like "Fuck! Shit! Dammit!!" as one word. He did what I feared most, jumped the trail (!) right as I got to him. He went right over the hood and his back hoof was so close I could have grabbed it had I not had a hand full of brake. Fear? I was rattling like a worn out clutch from wrist to ankle. Took about a mile at 25 MPH to calm down and get back to it, but every scrubby brown bush and tree that my lights picked up had me jumpy for much longer. Live n let live? Sure, but keep the headlight on the trail/road instead of in the air. Most frightening animal experience of my life.

When I was a kid in my late teens, a friend and I found this old dump site from around the turn of the century, way back in the bush where there used to be a logging camp. We were walking in there and digging up old bottles and stuff, and selling them to the local antique stores to make extra money on the side. One time, we were in there and it had started to snow, then stopped. It was getting close to dark, so we loaded up and left for the day.
When we walked back in the next day, RIGHT BESIDE the tracks we had left in the snow walking out the night before were big, fresh cougar tracks. I dont know how far behind us it had been, but no doubt whatsoever that it had been following us out the night before. Boy I'll tell you, it sure made the hair on my neck stand up. We turned around and left, didnt go back till the following summer.

...we had some of 'those' critters actually follow us through the bush, and doing their best to keep up...

There are a great many worse things in that place than cobras falcongeorge.Highlander in rural Florida I routinely kill poisonous snakes in the yard and on the dirt road.I shot a little water moccasin yesterday.Got a big fat rat snake that lives in the feed shed(and NO rats in the shed).I believe I would have used chemical warfare on that hornets nest you found!
