I got one, found one for a few bucks at a swap meet and had to use it.

Exactly right...they belong in a surf wagon:D We used to call 'em "goofy foot" (a foot stance style on a board) pedals, instead of "barefoot" pedals;) I dig 'em and think they are cool! That being said, I went with a "spoon" in my roadster:)

When I bought my 55 in 1976 I put a bare foot gas pedal in it because of that commercial.

I have one somewhere, but never actually used one. All the kids who ran them when I was in high school were giggling idiots who drove crap like grampa's old 4 door falcons, didn't want to be part of that crowd.
I think mine is in a box with the old spark-o-matic 3 speed conversion, some fake JC Whitney Buick port holes and a few other period accessories of questionable coolness..

Just got my Daughter to play the commercial for me on U-tube. I always remembered the car as being a 55 not a 57. Well they say that the memory goes first.

  12. I have the gas pedal and the dimmer pedal. Both are going in my 69 Chev panel. I think they fit the era, a little bit of late 60's goofy nostalgia.

They would seem out of place to me in anything much older.

Bought one for my first car, a '67 Mustang - but that was in the Seventies. There was one in my '55 Chevy pickup when I bought it, it's hanging on the wall in the shop. I still smile when I see one, but as others said they seem like more of a late sixties muscle car/hippie van/surf wagon kinda thing.

What's funny is how many guys buy them then start a post here can't figure out how to get them to work... Or want to know where they can by a "kit" to attach them.

  16. G'day all, When I bought my first 55 Chevy back in 1977, it had the infamous foot shaped gas pedal in it. The first time I really got on it the little toe of the gas pedal got caught in the ugly shag carpet, hit a curb, and destroyed the right lower control arm. That pedal is hanging on the wall in my garage now.

  19. I was a broke high schooler when they came out, I couldnt afford one, so I made one out of wood. didnt realize when I put it on that since I had little brakes (pedal would almost hit the floor) and the barefoot pedal was larger than an original, when I got to the first stopsign on its maiden voyage, I hit the brake pedal, it hit the top of that gas pedal and I powerbraked all the way thru the intersection. Luckily, no one was around and I didnt hit anyone. I took the damn thing off......

I was riding shotgun with a buddy in high school leaving football practice. He nailed the newly installed "foot" and its weight overpowered the throttle return spring and the fas pedal stayed floored! Good fun while he tried to hook his foot underneath the pedal and lift off.

Those only look good on '69 and older cars....;)

  24. Can someone post the link to the chain steering wheel thread. I can not find it.

    Thanks

I remember some of the older hoodlums chopped their steering wheels. I guess they were a carry over from WWII airplanes. I thought they were pretty cool when I was a small child.

I had one of those foot gas pedals on the shelf for years and kept threatening to use it, but my Sons said if I did they were going to put me in a home,. So I sold it on Ebay. :D
