Really need more info. Was this a running car that suddenly did this?
Sounds to me like something is jamming the ring and pinion or tranny. Is this an open drive ? Will driveshaft turn ?

If they turn opposite directions when off the ground the differential gears (axle & spider) seem to be working, but if they won't roll together when on the ground then maybe the ring & pinion gears are locked by broken teeth or something? Or maybe something further up the torque tube or transmission is jammed (it is definitely in neutral isn't it? LOL). As 41fb says, a bit more info would help.

OK, well it sounds like you found the problem? If you undo the bolts between the t/tube and banjo you might be able to work out if it is stuck in the t/tube or the centre section.
