Technical Banjo rear brake hub ID, kinda

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by prewarcars4me, May 12, 2016.

  1. Not my picture, just using for reference. Are all passenger car rear brake hub the same "outside" brake drum type from 40 to 48? I see them often called a 1940 hub, and sometimes a 1940-1948 hub.

I ASSUME they are just called a 1940 hub because that's when the change happened??? I could be wrong (happens a few dozen times a day), so I figure you guys can set me straight.

Actually '40-'41-'42 are like the picture.
'46-'47-''48 are the 'inside mount' drums.

  6. Ford stocked hub/drums as assemblies and at that level they were interchangeable for all years. If I remember correctly people use the later ones when converting to the finned Buick drums but check me out on this if it is important. The later ones had weld on weights that sometimes interfere with wire wheels and need to be relocated. If you run the early Ford wire wheels you will need adapters for the '40-'48 drums.
