Im new to HAMB but really like this site. Great info all over here. Picked up a30 Tudor a few months ago and been hot and heavy on it ever since. Motor was in great condition so decided to build a banger. Motors pretty much done and starts and runs great. Paint stripped and 4" drpped axle installed. Some leafs removed and spring eyes reversed front and rear. Thinking leaving finish as is and pin striping right over the way it is, nicks, dents and all. Luckily this was a rust free dent free car. Close to gettin it down the road. Looking forward to meeting a few HAMBERS in the Central Valley, Ca area. Still a lot to do but here is a few before during and after pics.
Hey Back up a little with the camera...so we can see the whole car. Looks like a really nice stance! Cool Banger Goodies!
Love the last picture the best!!! Leave it leave it! Love the hot rod banger too! You already "GET IT" Welcome to the HAMB!
The engine was newly rebuilt and ran really well so I left the internals for now, but plan a cam upgrade after I run it awhile as is. The head is a Lion Speed IV 6.5 compression. Equalizer intake...cool thing about this intake is it directs all the fuel to the center of the manifold to help from over fueling some cylinders while under fueling others, kinda like a distribution center. FSI electronic ignition. Yap exhaust 2 into 1 cast headers. 2 Mr. Stromberg 97s. linkages are home made as well as exhaust all done with mandrel bends and a few other small goodies like steel crank pulley and greaseless water pump. That's about it for the motor for now...fires right up and runs pretty well as is but still tunin a bit. Here's a couple pics of the exhaust, pretty simple and straight forward actually.
This is a traditional Rod with some Hot Rod improvements... Awesome Style!...(Looks like you're having fun!) can't wait to see the rest!
here are a few picks outside. thinking of lowering the back end a touch more but looks pretty good as is.
Hey Ron, Stance is almost everything around here, and your car nails it. It looks just about perfect, And WAY cool!
That body is really something- painting that would be like telling Marilyn Monroe to put her clothes back on! Nice job- dig the Banger. Have a ball!
I like it a lot!!! That would be perfect to haul the kids around in for me. Now you got me thinking!!
Yeah I really like the finish as well. I actually bought a gal. of BlitzBlack to do a satin black finish but I am leaving as is instead....thanks for all the comments. at least I feel like I'm on the right track with this project.
Please paint it! Why make a beautiful car look like a rat rod? why not have a car you can be proud of for decades? Instead of until the next fad rolls around. Patina is already dead!
I'd rather look at crisp , unblemished original sheet metal than another ( snore) flat black hot rod. ( unless of course it had a SBC with tune port injection and a chrome dress up kit). BUT.... dropping the roof 3" .....
My point is patina is not traditional on a street car. That fad originated in the late90's. Dig out your little pages mags and find me a pic of a car with no paint on it, race car or otherwise. Satin black fenders with a blue or maroon body would look pretty damn nice even if you pointed it with a brush and roller.
" dumprat"-No harm intended ( or thread hi-jacking) . I don't need the little books ( yet) for reference- I'm 67. I just think that body is too pretty to cover up, although I understand that kind of "unfinished" look might not appeal to everyone. The absolute worst look is the fake patina- red base / black top , and sanded to "age" ( barf). My first car ( at 15, before I had a license) was a '40 Ford coupe with a '56 Olds V-8 with tri power. Price? $150 bucks. Red body with black fenders ( brush job).In 1965 that was a hot rig ( my father hated it- carbs leaked all over his lawn!) To each his own; fun is the name of the game! GO RON BROWN!! I AM DIGGIN' THAT "C-DAN"
I would not call this a Rat Rod. A rat to me is usually a rusted out hulk beyond any sensible repairs thrown together with whatever is at hand. Nor do I see this as a Street Rod, which usually has all the latest in hi tech suspension, jig built frames and computer controlled fuel injection. That's not what this is. I see this car as a Hot Rod. This car is about as complete as it left the factory 85 years ago, with the exception of the dropped axle and minor engine mods it is an all steel, rustless representative of the real thing. I am not "making it look like a rat rod", it is what it is. what is left of the finish is areas of bare metal and the original black factory paint. Back in 79 I built a 29 on 32 rails highboy roadster with all the prerequisite hi dollar paint and chrome and it was a great ride, but I was not any happier with that as I am with this car. Once I started removing the yellow paint that looked like it was applied with a vacuum cleaner, I could see the car for what it is and I like it. I really don't care if I can't park next to the high end custom built rods at the car shows as I don't plan on showing it, though I will surely drive it to some get togethers and shows, but only as a transportation piece or to see what the other guys are up too. This car is actually just a toy for me to tinker with and a reason to spend money I probably shouldn't. I have no problem with Rats, $20,000 paint jobs or high end custom built by someone else street rods. The each have their admirers and detractors. I just happen to like plain old, built in the garage Hot Rods. I don't know, maybe I'm out in left field with this one, but it doesn't really matter, cause my wife really likes it. And after 44 years of marriage to my high school sweetheart, finally, something we can agree on. Hot Rods are cool, plain and simple. Ron
We then I commend you gentlemen on being better men than I. Because the fist snot nose puke with his ginch hanging out of his pants who walked up to such a nice car spouting "WoW RatRod" would be seeking someone in the field of dental reconstruction. Admittedly it is a personal failing....
