We just received our new Baileigh Magnetic Brake BB-4816M, We are a Baileigh Equipment Distributor & thought we need to show what can be done with the equipment we sell, We are a Hot Rod Fab & Restoration shop so demoing the equipment we use is just part of our work. So here is the basic very well equipped machine fully assembled, assembley time about 1 1/4 hrs wiring is simple 220 single phase I am no electrican another 1 1/2 hrs & some 10 gage wire. When I set ours up so if we need to move it out for a long run piece there is plenty of extra cord. So here is the machine fully equipped.

This machine is compact & very versitle with almost unlimited usage no height restrictions like with a traditional box & pan brake. My old 52 in brake weighed 1200 lbs this sweat heart weighs 462 lbs & our old traditional box & pan brake was always a challange on making a lot of panels. Round's, box's, triangle's, double or triple angle flanges no problem now. Just figure & study your lay out pattern then go for it. At $2195 current pricing plus shipping this should be a no brainer if you need a brake. So hope you enjoy the show.

I just wanted to play with our new Baileigh Magnetic BB-4816M bender so I thought I would try a roll tube, I am not making a part for any thing just experimenting.

I made a couple of mistakes but it is a learning curve over all I am happy with the results.
Lesson 1 use longer round then you need
Lesson 2 use a spacer to hold the round stock from the magnetic hold down 1/4 inch should work or possibley flip the sheet stock 180 degrees & finish roll more later on this type of bend as we need one for a project.

Max had to make a radiator shroud & 4 mount tabs so we did a quick step by step on making one of the tabs.

This is new to me. Please explain the concept. Am I correct that an electro magnet force holds the material instead of a clamp system
    like a mechanical brake?

The wildly popular BB-4816M Magnetic box and pan brake from Baileigh Industrial has changed everything in the sheet metal world. It has a 16 gauge capacity, an unlimited box depth and is great for radius bending. It comes with a ton of tooling and works with aluminum, mild steel and stainless. You can make your own tooling as well; use a piece of solid rod, pipe or an old piece of angle iron you have in your scrap bin. Remember, if a magnet will stick to it, you can use it as a bend die.

Watch this entire video to see how (note: it gets good around the 2 minute mark)

Can you bend more than a 135 degree angle bend? I can't tell from the photos how the front leaf hinges are attached.

Yes you can hem with it if you do it correctly. The magnet creates 6 tons of downward force. Watch your fingers ;)

Shane asked me to try a hem I have never done one on a brake so here it goes.
    First I marked the ends.
    DSCN9885.JPG
Then put down the upper plate.
    DSCN9886.JPG
Turned on the power then lift the handle its hard to take a picture & lift the handle at the same time.
    DSCN9888.JPG
    DSCN9888.JPG
Handle back down then the first bend.
    DSCN9889.JPG
    DSCN9890.JPG
Now move the ancor plate back so it will bend over more.
    DSCN9891.JPG
Pick the bar up and bend more.
    DSCN9892.JPG
    Almost a half hem bend.
    DSCN9893.JPG
    DSCN9894.JPG
Finished the fold over on to another piece of steel.
    DSCN9895.JPG
    Just a full bend over.

Well I think for a first effort I was quite happy the more I use the Baileigh Magnetic BB 4816M Bender the more I like it
