I can say that the young guy has some great fabrication skills. Also stayed on the project until it was finished.

Cleaned this post up a little... I personally consider VWs a part of hot rodding and while I don't want 50 VW posts floating around, I don't mind one every now and then.

If this bothers, just don't read this post...

  5. MMMMM....

I'm off my meds, but with proper cage and safety mods, could this thing fall into some obscure SCTA class?

There has been some totally bizarre cars set records before.

Not that it matters, but I dig it! And remember Ed Roth really liked VW's, he built a lot of cool stuff off that platform.

  8. Should be legal in Competition Coupe.

Being legal, and being competitive, are two different things.

I dig it. Dude definitely knew what he was doing. And he did it well. The whole build is interesting to see.

It always comes back to the rule: build what you like not what others want you too. The car itself is not for me or some of the others but the skills are there . And as Ryan said the Dub is part of hot rod history. Take it or leave it. So i'll give him props for the work. He's good. Now I'm left wonder what he can do with some vintage American iron?........ maybe we'll see a different post another day.

Yea, with the flipped reduction boxes that thing should get up to about 60mph. It will get there in a hurry, but it isn't going to go a whole lot over that.

It's a '65. First year with the big windows, last year with large side trim and wide five bolt pattern. They're not collectable like a '32, but they're both one year only production models. My first car was a'65 bug, good memories.

holy shit a 7 second VW engined dragster thats wicked

  18. The previous, back-motored rail of VW Paradise has run in the 6.50's IIRC and at way over 200 mph... I was at Phoenix when they ran thier first 200 mph pass in the "Paradise Express"

and '67 was the last year of the wide-5, 5 on 205 wheel bolt pattern, at least in the US... and the "1300" on the decklid designates it as a one-year-only F case 1300 cc engine, which was used only in 1966 in the States.

Yeah it made me vomit too. That poor split looks squashed. It would have been so much cooler to me if it was more like the pair posted by JJ and graverobber.. If you want the hot rod look, build a friggin hot rod.

Yeah yeah, I know, it's his to do with as he pleases.. I'm just not into the volksrods.

    'Traditional' cal bugs however, rule.

I wonder how fast that launch vehicle would go if you lit off the rocket.. Jesse can you set that up? B-ville or bust.

That must explain why it was a bit more "genteel" than I was expecting when I opened it:)

Nice fabrication is OK by me no matter what it was to start with.

It's not a real split. It was faked.
