Check the picture that goes with this on the FB page. SCTA works so hard as do the racers but Mother Nature rules even is a severe drought. SCTA Southern California Timing Association 30 minutes ago near Wendover, UT The SCTA Board is currently on the salt flats and the BSF is under water and will not dry in time for Speed Week to be held. Therefore, the event is canceled. The Board is discussing the possibility of extending World Finals and making it a delayed Speed Week. The entire SCTA thanks you for your patience and understanding. We look forward to seeing you at our next event.
You can come to the HAMB Drags on your week off. Lots of others stop by on there way home from Bonneville. Maybe I should come up with some diversions for those who now will be arriving early. John
I suspect many who lacked news got it on the HAMB. Since there is no other news source, that I know of, followed by so many who follow this event, perhaps those who have the ability should institute a news service prior to, and during these events to give those of us who are interested a little more context and information, as well as some of the results. Just an idea. Because, after all, aren't we all dry lakes racers at heart?
The scta has a facebook page that you can access without belonging to facebook. https://www.facebook.com/SCTASouthernCaliforniaTimingAssociation John
Yes you should, I'm heading that way in about an hour, don't know when I'll be in town but prolly Wednsday at the latest. BB
the SCTA also has a web page that has been up to date with the latest info. Which is great if you are good at the internets...not so great if you still use typewriters, stamps, envelopes, telegrams, etc. http://www.scta-bni.org/
Went to Jamaica once and it was cloudy for 7 STRAIGHT DAYS! Surprised I was not going to Bonneville this year, that would be my luck. Bummer guys...
Well, shit ! My roadster is Victory red, finished, and shiny when I wash it. Now I'm depressed. Thank you, thank you very much.
need T-shirt made with "I was at Bonneville 2014. Where were you?" with a boot or tire partly covered with water - for those that did make the trip. So much for the 100th anniversary victory celebration. 101st year will be better - hopefully.
model a keith from the uk ,and i will be doing some day runs around the area and hitting up starbirds mesuem if you or anyone else is interested this week.
Since the 100th Speed Week didn't happen wouldn't next year be the 100th too. If so I already got my shirts ready for 2015. One good thing was I got to see the Marani brothers brand new Troy Trepanier built streamliner. It pulled into the Rainbow casino around 8:30 Friday night with their AMBR finalist roadster right behind it.. They both were on open trailers and the stories from the trip were hilarious. I'll bet the phone system in Wendover immediately went into overload judging by the crowd that gathered. I don't know what Troy and his bunch of talented individuals are going to build next but this car is absolutely amazing, 10:30 at night and the crowd was still there. What a great bunch of guys. I'm guessing it is already on it's way back to Illinois to get painted by now.
2014 was not the 100th Speed Week, it was the 66th. 1948 being the first. It was the 100th year since Bonneville was used as a speed course. 2015 will be the 101st year. Mick
That certainly does suck. Myself and a few friends from new Zealand have come over to go and check it out, but now we will hit Pomona tomorrow then head to Vegas for some fun. I have been cruising my 59 ranch wagon round LA and seems to be going ok so far... Hopefully everyone can make the best of the situation
Since I have been going (1976) this is the 5th. i actually went the first time inn '66 and it was rain shortened, as were several since then.
For those heading back east you guys can stop in at Joplin for the HAMB drags. And Friday and Saturday is the big swap meet in Springfield and its well worth your trip up from Joplin to see it.
I know others have information. I was hoping someone who wrangles this beastie we all affectionately call HAMB would volunteer to sit astride it and sidle up the Grand Wizard His Rolliness Ryan, and perhaps formulate a version of the the idea. I know about landracing.com and am a follower because of the tech gurus. I know SCTA has a site but a bunch that charges nine bucks to deliver a ten buck rule book is only to be sought when you are flush and ready to bow down to authority, as per the rules and those who administer them. And, of course, on that subject Smokey Yunik said it best.
