I got to Wendover about 4:30 this afternoon and drove through a small shower on I 80 at the B'ville exit. I checked in and went to the end of the road to see what it looked like.

I must warn you, This is not Pretty.

There were some folks walking around in ankle deep water until one of the course workers drove out to tell them to get off the salt. Did he even offer them a ride, hell no.

This is a lot of water folks, I do know that it drys out fairly fast but we shall just have to wait and see.

I did run into my friend Timmy McMaster the world famous Y Block Guy though, he was gonna camp at the bend in the road to be in line first thing in the morning, good luck Tim.

Now here is the bad news, it is 7:22 in Wendover are we are having THIS RIGHT NOW.

The heavy black line is the Nevada, Utah border, I 80 is the highway, the raceway in the first picture is just where the green is above the highway. In the second picture you can see that the red is now over the speedway. It has been raining like this for over an hour now and it don't look like the end is in sight.

Here is a picture of the latest radar image at 8:30 MDT.
If I was a betting man, I would say there ain't gonna be a speed week

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.

That doesn't look good. I feel sorry for all the teams that have put in so much effort to get there if that is the case.
The year we went was as hot as hell, not a rain cloud in sight.

I hate to hear that the flats are a mess, but the sad truth is the salt flats have been deteriorating for years, and the area suitable for racing has been less and less.

Dang Bob. Sorry to hear the bad weather report. I can't make it due to working on relocating to East TN. Well, at least you can go to the casino and eat some good chow at a decent price.

  14. Not sure how long it takes to dry up, but racing is scheduled for the week. If it can't start on the weekend, there could still be 3-4 days of salt. Keep your fingers crossed for dry weather and some breeze.

It's always possible for the prevailing wind to move that lake down course. Don't despair yet.

    from SCTA-BNI web page:

    Salt Report Wed Aug 6th

The Bonneville Salt Flats has experienced a flash cell that came over within the last hour. The storm left additional water on the salt that had been drying out nicely. Therefore the SCTA has decided to delay all activities one full day. Inspection will be held Friday, with the first racing day now scheduled for Sun Aug 10. Please do not use the access road as you will be turned around. Further updates will be posted tomorrow (Thurs) afternoon. We still believe the event will occur based on the current weather forecast.

The weather forecast for the week looks good, only 10% chance of rain on fri. and clear thru the rest of the time! Saw it on FB from the SCTA.

Thanks for posting Bob. It is difficult to keep up with what is going on at Bonneville. There are many gaps and misinformation on the net. I try to keep from bothering the teams I work with as I know they are busy and tired. Now I am sure they are disappointed too. Let us hope that the water will disappear and they will have good salt and good runs.

See you in a few days.

Thanks for the news even though it is not real good. If you have a chance to look over at the camp spot at The Bend could you see how wet it is. That place can be damp in dry years and it is not far from where some of your muddy/water standing pictures were taken before last nights shower. My old Viet Nam vet buddy makes me sleep between him and the drainage ditch because he's still afraid the saltwater crocs will get him. We are planing to head out Saturday.
