    Hello,

When we were 20 somethings, our 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery had lots of power from a 327 SBC motor. We had an office in our house and wanted to upgrade it with real comfortable seating. We had visited a friend in a modern sleek office building and in his own quarters, he had these chairs that we sat in during our discussion. They were so comfortable and cool looking. A classic design lasts for a long time, whether it is in hot rods or industrial applications for the consumer.

They were called Eames Aluminum Group Office Chairs. We had a nice office space in our home, so we wanted the same level of style and comfort that these chairs offered. So, I went out to the sedan delivery and measured the back cave to see if they could fit to save on delivery. We would enjoy the drive in the Ford sedan delivery to the L.A. office store to pick them up.

We could get the two small chairs inside easily, but knew they would come in two cardboard containers. There was still enough room for the two boxes if that was the way we had to bring them home

We went back to the store and took exact measurements of the chair itself and measured the inside of the sedan delivery cave. They would fit and be strapped down to keep them from moving in transport without boxes. Or, we might have to do some on the spot assembly or disassembly to make them fit.

Then we talked about what was more important, the nice office chairs we had then versus spending a lot of money on those classic design of office chairs. Since they were expensive, smarter minds took over and we told ourselves… one day… in the future…perhaps.

Jump up to 2021 and since we had not spent any money on long vacation road trips, there was plenty to spend on upgrading our old office to current standards. So, we ordered the custom office chairs that had low backs so as not to take over any small room or furniture. We ordered the Eames Aluminum Group Office Chairs from a reputable dealer and now the wait began.

The chairs were backordered and due to the factory being run on a minimum staffing due to the pandemic. It took over three months to get the two office chairs. At long last… they looked just as good as many years ago and we were just about happy enough to get busy in the office.

The problem was that the chairs were not able to rise high enough to fit comfortably with the new glass table/desks we had. So, back to the factory they went, but the wait for arrival to our house was long, due to the staffing in those factory warehouse.

The time it took for a full transaction refund took well over the time it took to arrive in the first place. The blame was the pandemic. But as calm as we normally are, we just said, “What else are we doing during these trying times?”

The pandemic is still going strong and gaining again. Stay safe… It is not worth the effort to get worked up over some back ordered items. It will eventually happen…YRMV

Reminds me of when I worked at the parts counter at the local Chevy dealership in the early 70's.
Customers would come in wanting spark plugs for their cars and insist on using only genuine Chevrolet AC plugs. They didn't care that you could buy AC plugs at the local auto parts stores for $.69 each, they wanted the factory plugs at $2.89 each. I would make them happy buy giving them a 20% discount. I didn't tell them that we bought our AC plugs from the local parts houses at $.69 for resale.
