This Spring, after 2 prior attempts in recent years, I scored a '65 Newport to do as a trad custom. It came with a '66 300 front wrap resting on it, spent weeks swapping wraps with a different '65 Newp before its buyer took it home miles away. Good thing, too: I learned a LOT on how those cumberbund-like bumper/grille wraps are set up. Gettin return to it. Definitely lowering it, have skirts, thinking of a copper-and-Something paint job. But man do I have metal repair ahead. Has the 727, will have to figure out a motor. Doing the inner fenders/firewall/core support first. Do you/have you had a Newp? oh, the transmission...65 only had a cable operated, column shift transmission, with a slip yoke on the back of it. Desireable tailhousing, for guys wanting to build a pushbutton shifted torqueflite for a race car.
Good luck with it, but I would let it go and find something older and in better more complete condition. You will spend a lot of money on a car that has little resale value. Another words, you just bought a money pit that has very little redeeming qualities.
