I got the '51 back from the painter last night and got my home made whitewalls mounted today. Dammmmmmn I like it. It is fainally starting to lokk like the car I imagined the day I bought it. Nothing fancy, no chop, channel, etc. I love the way this car looks in stock form, the 49-52 Chevy's have always made me tingly in my happy place. Uh... maybe that was too much info.
I still need to get the bumpers and grill re-plated or replaced but I'll be driving around with a perma-grin for awhile the way she sits.

Very nice car!!! Homemade white walls? Did you sand a set down?
We did that on a 1950 Dodge Pickup after someone had stolen the $250 cokers.

Are those buffed whitewalls. That whitewall looks huge, what tires did you start with??

Sure, I bought a nice stock unrestored but non running 1951 4 door sedan at an estate sale along with a matching but rough parts car (the motors in both cars were seized up and the mice had built a village in the nice car interior). They sat in the shop for awhile and, in a moment of financial clarity, I reviewed my budget and decided that the sedan was never going to get restored (unless the Lotto gods smiled on me) so I put the cars on the local C-list site. The first guy who came to see them was a body and paint shop owner so we worked out a deal; he got both sedans and I got my coupe painted. I got a great deal on the cars when I bought them so my investment was...... small. He got a set of cars that will make one very nice sedan (and one rough driver, if he wants). Everybody is happy.
I really prefer to barter and swap stuff rather than shell out hard cash, especially since I have VERY little of the stuff.
