So that means everyone but yourself is a dumb shit because they use colloquialisms in a country other than the one you live in?

I think it’s not so much that it’s a colloquialism, but just a way to shorten up the proper word.
“The rear in my ‘51 is making a noise”

    Instead of saying “rear end”.

Not sure if this occurred before or after texting.
K? ;). Damn I hate when I get a “K”. I mean add an O in front, or go all out and use 4 letters!
    Okay? :)

Search "internal combustion motor" and see what you get.........
    Then try "electric engine".......

Gotta laugh every time I hear/read you guys telling someone you like their rear end.
If you did that at a car show down here, you would risk being punched.
(By the way, punched can mean different things in the sentence above, especially if we add the word 'freckle'.....)

Come or go. Either word works the same when you promise your wife/girlfriend that you would not do that whilst messing around in the back seat of the car.
    What??? Thats auto related.

My 22 year old niece refers to the driver’s seat in her car as a ‘chair’…..which sort of makes sense…

The fish called Salmon. Why is the "l" necessary? Samon would do.

  18. Why do United Statesians call tuna 'tuna fish?' Why is the word fish necessary? I know you don't use it when referring to any other fish. Or do you?

  19. In the olden days (before I was born) ...no really olden days hundred of years ago when printing was in its early days, typesetting was done by hand and typesetters were paid per letter. Things were nowhere near as standardised as they are today either. So, enterprising typesetters would add letters to words where they could get away with it, to boost their pay. On word that bugs me (among many) is program. Or to use the English version, programme. Australia swings both ways with this.

Of course this is not the only reason why some words have seemingly redundant letters. There have been innumerous linguistic shifts and influences over the centuries.

Silent letters. Many languages have them. In the olden days the 'k' in knight and knife were in fact pronounced. I would guess the 'l' in salmon was similar.

When I was taught to drive I was told to put it in gear and slowly release the clutch while giving it some throttle. Confusing, I had to release the clutch to put it in gear. What I needed to do was slowly apply the clutch.

The difference being all the fish mentioned have a noun or verb in front of the word fish whereas Tuna is just tuna, nothing else. It would be like calling a Beagle a Beagle dog or Red Setter a Red Setter dog.

I can live with the word "dizzy", as it is very common in Australia. I really love the term I heard a few weeks back on the HAMB though - "lightning whirler".

    Cheers,
