I seem to have developed a strange fascination with the items you would find in the New Car Showrooms back in the days before everything started to suck. I also collect advertising items.. while I do collect magazine ads, what I really like is the flyers and other things they would send the dealers for their local ads. I have had a bunch of 49-54 Chevrolet stuff over the years, as well as a few other brands. this first batch from today is things I own, or had at one time. I have more of this stuff but no pics right now. I have a folder in my computer with 650 pictures of the same type of items from different years... 1918 up to 1964
I had a whole set of these from 1912 til 1952. they were some sort of dealer display item for 52. they folded up and would stand on thier own.. I'm not quite sure if that was all they did. they may have been somehow glued together and made some thing... not sure.
this is the Brochure for the posters above. the big poster in the center would be about 5 feet wide..
1953 poster and original aluminum frame. these frames had a slot in the top and each year they would just slide the new posters in. these are heavy cardboard. they used these frames from 53 to well into the 60's if not the 70's as well.
this 56 Chassis poster was not a showroom item, but some sort of GM school thing. there was one of a body shell that I was not able to get.
This is from Frank Pindar and Son here in Grand Gorge N.Y. A lot of family history for me- My father worked there as a mechanic. My Grandfather on my dad's side was a school teacher but worked in Pindar's office during the summers. My Grandfather on my mom's side was a body man there. I think this was a mailer not a dealer poster
I've collected a few rare dealer / sales items over the years to compliment my 46 Olds, not to mention all the service, body and parts manuals with supplements. Here's a sample
